That is becoming an issue that does concern me; luckily we keep drawing in awesome recruiting classes, but in another year or two, if things don't change, we will start to fade away, even with recruits, because we will become 'yesterday's news' as an elite program.

We just lost to Dabo swinney and Clemson in our coach's 8yh year. Answer seems obvious to me.

Could've stopped at "lost to Clemson" your point was already made. The answer is no, and next years record will confirm it.

No. Can't be an elite program without a good coaching staff, and we don't have one. Now Miles is untouchable. "Cheaper to Keep her", and it's always going to be about the money. We had our moment, but the trend is downward. Headed towards being middle of the pack. Get used to going to Nashville, Shreveport, or Atlanta for Bowl games.

Consistent 10 win team, 2nd in the SEC in graduation rate. Sounds pretty elite to me.

yes and until LSU is not in contention for a NC at the beginning of each year they will be considered elite.

We were in the bcs nc game as an undefeated team less than one year ago. We are still elite. Is the loss to Clemson troubling? Yes. With similar results next year then it's time to revisit this conversation.

Every team is in contention for the NC at the beginning of the year. If you mean "likely to make it to the NC" I'd say that LSU is less likely than at least a dozen other teams to make it to the NCG next year. Whether that qualifies as "elite" or not depends on your definition I suppose.

I think LSU is a good team with elite talent that is routinely going to lose a couple of games a year due to weak coaching.

Yeah, but I see a bad moon rising. Depends on recruiting.

WHOA, did I just say that? Scratch the recruiting comment; thought that would make a difference.

With the exception of Bama, who exactly in the SEC is more 'elite' than LSU?

Ask me in February. If we have consecutive mediocre recruiting classes, I'll be concerned. By contrast, if we land a Top 5 class, then the 2012 debacle appears to be an abberation. Remaining elite is simply a function of talent. As long as the roster is loaded and the talent pipeline is flowing, championships are within reach. The minute that changes, its only a matter of time until disaster strikes on the field.

Define elite. Consistent top ten team?? Consistent top 5 team? Consistent 10 win plus team?? In the talk as NC contender each year??

So what does our loss to Clemson mean TODAY with respect to our future? Not a frickin thing. Just means we won't be top 10 ranked team this year in the final poll. No effect on future play. Example??? Notre Dame last year to this year

Miles is trying to match his mentor Schembechler who had an atrocious bowl game record.

They lost to Utah under Saban the year before winning the NC. So it does mean something today.

Complacency does not linger for 5 years. Last season was remarkable until the Bama game and things changed.

Not at this time. Yesterday's loss was a complete disaster and should not have happened.
