Because I watch our defense be competitive on a play by play basis and get off the field on 3rd down and create TO worthy plays. We did none of these things last year.

The issue this year is that they will play well for 10 plays in a row and then give a big play on the 11th play. Last year we'd be lucky to string 2 or 3 good plays together.

I think the sample size is too small and has too many contrasts from last year's first three games to make an educated determination.

I'm not sure the coaches had all of their players in the positions the coaches wanted for the first three games.

The NCAA website. You can google it pretty easily. Total offense/Total Defense rankings.

We'll I sure hope we are better. UCLA is currently 124th for total offense. If we cant hold the 9th from last offensive team to under 300 yards, we have SERIOUS problems.

This alone is one of my pet peeves. It is frustrating to do well on first and second down only to let the other team extend the drive off of third down.

Congrats on learning about this "statistic" for the first time and just reposting it over and over. Is our defense better? No.

It’s funny how you are presented data that proves you are wrong and you are just like “no” lol. You mfs don’t know ball fr just tune in on Saturday grandpa and leave the discussion to people who know what they’re talking about

Because yds allowed isn’t the only measurement of how a defense is performing. Getting off the field on 3rd down and creating havoc is huge for us. If you can limit the home runs in the run game (we did vs USC) you will see the rest of the statistics reflect the improvement we are seeing in other areas.

Yes. If you can’t see it, I don’t know what to tell you.

Are we a great or even good defense right now, probably not but they are clearly better than last year.

Getting more pressure on QB, the CBs don’t look completely lost.

The system seems to be better.

There is still a lack of high end talent but they are playing better.

That isn’t always reflected in stats

We were sub 100 in both turnovers generated and 3rd down stops last season. What have you seen there so far? We had a havoc rate percentage in the teens last season. Where do you think that is this year, especially after a game with 5 sacks and 3 turnovers?

This defense has given up chunk plays in all three games. We all know this and that has to stop. But if you don’t see progress in the number of stops and turnovers, then you are a fricking idiot who isn’t just bad at a stupid card game.
