I'm saying we were the best team in 4A that year if the playoff system was set up the same way it is now. Where public schools play public schools. I never did think it was a fair fight between those public schools and the private schools who could pluck the best players out of their area. Even if JC was in 5A they would have beaten any school in that class back then.

Eunice was a city with 15k to 18k population back then and around 700 to 800 students total. Between the juniors and seniors there were probably around 340 or so. We played who we had. If Eunice and St. Edmund would have combined those student athletes in those years it would have been the equivalent of the John Curtis roster.

I have no doubt that if Eunice High would have been the only school of choice for HS in Eunice that we would have beaten JC pretty easily. If you go back and look at those two schools in those 3 years you would see that both were doing well at that time. Both schools defense's were top notch and to add the athletes that St Eds had with what Eunice had, there's no doubt that we would have had a rotation that matched JC. I know those kids who played for each school and St Eds had some dudes that played for them. They were't as deep as Eunice but their starters where as good as some of ours. We were just a much faster team then St Eds but as far as strength and athletes they were about equal.

So what I was getting at is if the LHSAA playoff system was set up the way it is now then Eunice would have been the best 4A school by a good margin in those years. We were 37-7 including playoff games between 97-99. In 1998 we were 14-0 and in 99 we were 11-3 going into that game with JC. In 1999 we didn't hit our stride until the end of the year and then went on a tear. In 98 we were just a very good football team overall.

I really want to see how bad these kids want it now that it's a fair fight. This looks like a very good match up if you look at common opponents and the outcomes. Eunice Highs Defense is playing on another level at this time. It's also a fairly young team. We have some size and length but mostly speed. I think Ole Paul has something special he hasn't showed yet this year ready for this Sterlington team.

1992 Opelousas high would beat absolutely anyone now and anyone in that time. Undefeated season, beat #14 nationally ranked John Curtis at Donald Gardner and got cheated at salmon by losing 7-0 in the semis after having 3 touchdowns called back for “holding”. And of course salmon went on to win it all

Lots of towns can say that. Crowley & Rayne with no Notre Dame? New Iberia & Westgate with no Catholic High?

Turned off Curtis and Catholic at 35-7 when Curtis ran back the pick. They were just obviously the better team than my Bears.

Not much fun to watch that kind of game. And to the participation trophy bitch, go look at those John Curtis teams back then. They were slaughtering everyone even in the playoffs. I'm pretty sure they had a total of 20 points scored on them throughout the playoffs while averaging 50+. That's 50+ to 5 on average in the playoffs. I think that's a little ridiculous.

They smoked teams. Eunice held them to 20 points back to back years their lowest total both years and lost by 2 scores. Also their lowest margin of victory. Most playoff teams couldn't even keep up with their starters, Eunice went toe to toe with their starters. It was their depth that killed us. When you can bring in fresh guys who are just as good as you are and give your starters a breather then that's a huge advantage. Eunice had some guys playing both ways.

Anyway I heard we're stepping up to 4A next year so it's going to get much tougher for them. They'll have to work hard this offseason to have another good year.
