I would like more money funneled to WBB, OR for the SEC to negotiate a fair TV package so that the WBB team gets the same kinda of revenue sharing, commensurate with their popularity.
College football gets the most viewers
Then college basketball
After that the others hardly move the needle. It’s fortunate they get on tv at all. They don’t get high enough ratings to come close to the other two.

For one thing they have a lot more people to pay and it is competing with MLB rather than the minimum wage WNBA.

Granted this is just for ESPN so the Big10 games on CBS probably brings this number higher overall. ESPN Men's vs Women's viewership.
Men's
Women's
eta: Not sure about viewership #s for regular season college baseball.
Men's
quote:
Games in February and March across ESPN platforms averaged 1.2 million viewers – up 18% from last year and the best average for these months since the 2018-19 season.
Women's
quote:
Regular Season: Women’s college basketball delivered its most-watched regular season on ESPN platforms since 2008-09. Viewership for the 2024-25 campaign finished 3% above the historic 2023-24 regular season with a whopping 41% increase over 2022-23. In all, the 87 women’s games across ESPN platforms averaged 280,000 viewers.

Then it essentially says over half of the deal is not any type of team specific.
That makes absolutely no sense.
So half of the money we get from ESPN comes from just in general being a University that is in the SEC?
That's patently retarded. Literally every single dollar can be allocated to a sport for every single team in the SEC and every single sport. We all know the vast majority of the deal is for football.
They just don't do it. The SEC doesn't get paid to exist.
You’re confused because there are multiple media deals in play here. There is a media rights deal for FBS Football which is allocated there on the financial spreadsheet.
There is also a media rights deal for Men’s Basketball so that is also shown there on the financials.
Then there is a 3rd media rights deal that includes all other sports. That’s the “not specific to a sport” part of the financials.
We can debate the actual value of each sport to that overall number, but it would just be a guess. What we do know is WBB was the biggest chunk of that deal according to ESPN.

ESPN and the NCAA have reached a new, eight-year media rights extension covering the bulk of the NCAA championship events, including the Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament, it was announced Thursday. There had been considerable speculation that the NCAA would sell rights to the women’s tournament separately due to the recent growth in viewership for that event.
Per Sports Business Journal, NCAA president Charlie Baker says the deal is worth $115 million/year, nearly triple the current level of $40 million. Baker told SBJ that the NCAA valued the women’s basketball tournament at $65 million/year.

Women's basketball is valued at $65 million per tournament in the NCAA's new media rights deal with ESPN -- roughly 10 times more than in the contract that ends this year.

people can hate on McMahon all they want, but when it comes to this stuff, dude has significantly cut down on our MBB postseason travel budget. You can't say he hasn't done things to help the bottom line.
MBB only made money from TV rights.

I produced numbers to show your claims of viewership were wrong and you ignore them and make more emotional rambling posts.
I don’t believe the numbers. The networks have every incentive to inflate the numbers to try to get people interested in watching unwatchable sports like WBB. You have the NBA and NCAA shoving it down the networks’ throats and the networks have to try to make the case because they’re highly motivated to keep the rights to broadcast the sports that people actually do watch.
Nobody is actually watching that nonsense.

Interesting. Maybe they should do it on a school by school basis. I wonder which one is more popular among LSU fans.

More than 85% of the NCAA's revenue comes from the national men's basketball tournament. The NCAA men’s national basketball tournament has multiplied its TV revenue nearly 70 times since the early 1980s. This investment has become formidable for both sides of the deal, as the yearly revenue for the annual tournament has now surpassed $1 billion in broadcasting rights alone.

One Billion plus versus 65 Million.
Huge difference

Yes, it is. What’s your point?

This is patently false, and has been shown to be incorrect numerous times on this forum. No doubt football is far and away the most viewed, with MBB a DISTANT second. But, the distance between MBB, WBB and then baseball is much less than the distance between MBB and football. So, getting back to the original quote, WBB should have a TV deal commensurate with their popularity, which his hardly just "moving the needle".

DOnt you think that if WBB were close to MBB in drawing viewers, the networks would be fighting each other for the rights to their tournament? They aren’t.
One billion plus for men and only 68 million for the women. Remember this is a new deal for the women and much better than what they had previously.

Don't mess with our wbb team!!

quote:This simply isn't true. I watch WBB, gymnastics, and softball, just as much as I watch the men's sports. TBH I don't watch MBB very much because they are bad and have been bad since McMan started. A lot of LSU fans watch and attend women's sports. WBB and Gym pack the seats.
The fact is that no matter how much the media or Mulkey or whomever tries to slam women’s sports down our throats NO ONE really watches it or cares to.
