The offer was 27.5 over 5 years right? That's 5.5/yr. (Saban money). LM's making 3.75 a year now. Diff of 1.75. Was the 27.5 offer not base but including incentives? What am I missing?

I believe he denied the amount, but it doesn't matter now, anyway. He got what satisfied him for now. I'm glad he's staying although the meltdown during the next several seasons with a new coach would have been as entertaining as this meltdown has been.

The combined intelligence of Tiger fans is pretty low.

He admitted in the presser that rumor was false.

You can call me whatever you want, but I'll take 85-20 over 8 years any time. Yes Miles can be frustrating and yes they can be hard to watch sometimes, but before you say we should just let him go - think back to Curley Hallman and the dark days. Do we really want to take a chance on going back there?

While I think Miles has his weaknesses, I have always respected him as a man of integrity and loyalty.
I lost respect for him today .
If he can go for the money, he will, even if he made commitments for less.
BUT, he was just doing what we allowed him to do.
Or, more accurately, what Alleva allowed him to get away with.
The blame here is squarely on our AD, who was played like a violin.

Huh?

That's an easy job.

Just gotta post his resume.

Like him or not, his resume puts him in the top 5 or even 3 coaches in the nation since took over at lsu.

Not really a surprise. I never thought he would leave. And that's good...I guess.

You can't argue with his record. So this is good news that he is staying...I guess.

I'll bet the rest of the S E C is celebrating now. Aleva must be getting kickback.

It's a title. The AD didn't do this by himself. He had plenty of company in making whatever decisions were made, nitwit. (I love being able to call you that and not get hit for attacking you.) No way Alleva made a decision without TAF and Board of Supervisors in the mix. He's not going to make a deal that might not be approved. I know for a fact a high ranking TAF guy was in BR all day about this, for example.

College coach contracts are renotiated all the time. This is not something new. It's the name of the game. It has nothing to do with commitments and if you're a good business person, you make good business decisions when the opportunity arises. Les and his agent did that. I'd be calling him stupid if he hadn't.

I believe there were already discussions going on and this "offer" sped those up. It may well be that what happened in the end was going to happen without the Arky affair.

Business is business. I like a lot of my employees, but I still fire them if they don't do well. I will also raise some even if the performance doesn't necessarily warrant it. If I think they're good enough to keep when there's a chance they might leave, I research it, look at bottom lines, training, costs etc... before I make a decision. So did the higher powers at LSU.

Some great points by Gris Gris. Letting Miles walk was taking too much of a risk. Despite his goofiness, his bizzare play calling, his stubbornness (Jordan Jefferson), he does have LSU at or near the top every season despite himself.

that's horse crap and we both know it. If this had happened before the SECCG last year, I might believe it. But, this extension and raise was 100% only about the Arkansas rumor/offer.

This wasn't in the works and I doubt even Miles believes that lie.
