Undrafted

I will permanently ban bet anybody on here who thinks he goes undrafted. Hell, I'll do it for anybody who doesn't think he goes by the end of the 6th round. Seems to be quite a few of you in here. Any takers? 100% serious.

Mike Detillier gave him a fifth to seventh round grade in an interview with Scott Long on DandyDon. Not sure what McShay and Kiper would have him at.

Probably 3rd round, I agree

I’ve seen him in those three round mocks

average SEC starting DT at best.
He was a below average SEC DT. He got pushed around all year long

For everyone to think he sucks so bad, why are there so many threads about him leaving?
Because, just as there is between high school and college, there is a huge difference between college and the pros. Each level up is a further thinning of the best of the best.
Though Smith MAY be a good, even great, college player, he's shown next to nothing to say he'll be an even decent pro player.
Another year of playing in college might have helped show that he could be a pro.

At the combine, he better show more recovery from his ACL surgery and more quickness and strength and athleticism than he did his RS SO year at LSU
The recovery from ACL surgery is not the same for every athlete or surgery.
They have found player with higher BMI may take longer to get back to preinjury form.
1st year on track
2nd year injured first game
3rd year recovering from ACL surgery in my opinion he did play tentative
NFL who knows and someone will take a chance on him

Maybe he’ll explain one day but I doubt that.

Has to be no earlier than 4th.
lol
Y’all act like the nfl doesn’t draft off potential.
You are right.
Based on potential first it was Mike Detillier incessantly promoting this DT prospect out of Terrebonne High. In parallel the recruiting board and recruiting services were drooling over the measurables including me. Then all Tiger fans saw the measurables and potential and jumped on the bandwagon.
The NFL will do the same.
Maason "huge potential" Smith

I wish the young man the best of luck.
I think he made a mistake, but that is his call.
I remember last year when we had these same threads about Kayshon Boutte and the mistake he was making and whether he would be drafted.
These are very different, at least to me.
Maason may have looked out of shape and got pushed around, but i never thought he quit and I never saw him pout. I recognize that his poor performance was consistent with a big player having ACL surgery and taking time to recover.
He didn't threaten to transfer to Bama, demand the No. 7 or seek more money.

Late round pick or he won’t be drafted.
He will be invited to training camp though.

I tried searching for his LSU highlight video on YouTube. I could not find one.

I agree with your assessment. I'm rooting for him.

He was the 56th overall prospect on a recent CBS Sports draft ranking

Kenny Davidson went in the 2nd without ever starting.
Now, KD actually had more meaningful tape than Mason…..that’s bizarre
6’5” 270lb ran 4.6s
That’s impressive and in 1990

Not nearly as high as he thinks it is.
