Watching it in person, when I saw the player round third, I figured the game was over. Nice throw. The disappointment in the Bama crowd at that moment, was pure icing.

If it were LSU in that situation and anyone but China or Scivique running I would have sent them.

It was NOT a dumb decision.

Sending him was the absolute right call

It was a "call" one could make. It wasn't THE "absolute right call". Ball landed bout 30 ft. behind 2nd and the fielder was coming head on for the ball. He couldn't have asked to be in better position to make that play.

If we have an OF playing at LSU who couldn't make that throw more than 15% of the time, he shouldn't playing for LSU.

So you're saying Stevenson and Laird shouldn't be playing for LSU?

Definitely not as egregious as breaking for home on a stiff grounder right to first with the infield in.

I'm not sure how we can have any reasonable conversation about this if you don't think it was a close play. All I can say is watch it again. It's called knowing who you are playing against. A blooper with Stevenson out there you run if the guy isn't slow.

The tag by Cade was better than the throw by Stevenson, IMO

People are insane if they don't think sending him was the right call. Especially for the home team with last at bat. It took not only a perfect throw, but a perfect catch and tag just to get him. Had the runner not held up or took such a bad turn rounding third, it's not even close. LSU's outfield is not known for assists so they decision makes even more sense.

Lol.

The only thing close to "perfect" about that sequence was the tag. The CF almost two-hopped the ball on a throw he had a running headstart on and was almost into the infield. He also didn't even hit the catcher deadcenter.

All of that and the runner was still out.

That was FAR from absolutely the right call. I don't mind being aggressive at home, but that wasn't getting thrown out by Ichiro at 3rd, trying to stretch something. That was a throw 90% of high school outfielders could make with ease.

90% might be high, but I bet its at least 50% of high schoolers that make this throw

Watching the game live when Stevenson got the ball I thought to myself their is no way bama sent the guy home, and if they did Stevie is about to hose this guy. He was 20ft from the infield dirt with all of his momentum going to home.

This is rule of thump I always go by for sending a runner home on a hit to OF. If the outfielder gets the ball before the runner touches 3rd you put up a stop sign, and this is based on an OF at normal depth not 20ft from infield dirt. You can't see where the runner is for sure but I bet he was very close to bag when Stevie got the ball. I wouldn't of sent the runner.

The throw occurred this way because that's what kind of arm Stevenson has. Do you really think only our coaches, players, and fans know that Stevenson has a poor arm? You send the runner there precisely because Stevenson is likely to make a throw like this.

When I hear Ronnie Rantz say that Stevenson is probably the best defensive outfielder in college baseball I cringe. There is no doubt he can chase down fly balls with the best. However, he has what is known as a "poor" arm. Not average, but poor. Mechanics are terrible.

That is why Alabama challenged him from deep short stop. They played the odds and came up short.

It is really a shame because you cannot develop a good or great arm. You either have one or you don't.

You do not see ANY major league outfielders without at least good arms. A major handicap for him attaining the next level.

It's hard to say who specifically is better than him at fielding balls but he's not nearly the only one who can run down balls and make diving catches. There are others though who are more complete outfielders because they can throw much better. I'm strictly speaking defensively and I don't pretend to know how those guys stack up against him hitting.
