His arm isn't nearly as bad as it was his freshman year. It's about average now. Laird throws harder than my niece. That's as positive as I can be about it.

He's the best defensive player in range and ability to catch outs.. His talent here is so great it's even more valuable than some guy with an arm.. His arm in scarf has not been a hinder to LSU in any way. Would take this type of defender over a slower guy with an absolute arm. why does this make you cringe? Stevenson has made more plays out there recording outs than some guy with a great arm. The great arm guy establishes a rep and no one will even try to test..which means teams stay conservative and have more opportunity to score by being conservative.. whereas Stevenson records the outs immediately.. He's made so many highlight plays out there this season he is absolutely worthy of such praise.

Also, it's still a bang bang play.. With all the momentum.. It still takes an absolute accurate throw and the tag has to be incredibly quick. As I said earlier they are the home team.. It was the right decision. We held our guy earlier in the game at third with one out and we failed to get him in with a productive out. Neither team was scoring or even making productive outs.. This was an opportunity worth taking at this point. Especially considering they'll still have last AB

I'd love to see anyone else in the outfield highlight tape vs Stevenson. I've kept up with quite a number of college baseball games this season. I have seen nothing this season as consistently spectacular as Stevenson. He's done it all season long. Assists are not as valuable as range in college baseball. I'm sorry it's just not.

Sending him was the absolute right call

No it wasn't. I was laughing at them before the play was even over. That was so shallow that the average high school center fielder would have gotten him half the time. Also, Stevenson was moving right toward the plate. If he had been moving at an angle it would have required a little bit of setup time. As it was it would have been pathetic if we hadn't gotten him.

Plus, if you hadn't sent him you'd have had a man on third with one out. You could have gotten him in a lot of ways as long as you stayed out of the double play.

This is a great point.

You have to have the opportunity to make these plays. Stevenson is amazing defensively as you say with his ability to run down plays and make catches but he is not the only one who can do so. Highlight tapes are great but it doesn't prove anything other than he's had more plays like that this season than someone else. You see Stevenson do it all the time because you watch LSU games all the time. There are other outfielders who do it as well. I never said making the catch is not more valuable. I said there are more complete outfielders. I wasn't comparing him to slow guys that could throw as they would be deficient where Stevenson is good.

Agree completely.
Take a look at all the outfielders in the majors and list the names who have below average arms. Short list, there are none. All I'm saying is that to be the best outfielder in college baseball you must be able to throw (and run and hit for power).

Those good arms in the outfield do make the opposition play more conservatively. I really don't understand why SouljaBreaux thinks that by having good arms in the outfield and making the opponents take less chances they have more opportunity to score. They make it difficult for teams to stretch that long single into a double or the double into a triple. They make it difficult for a run to score from second on a hard hit single. How much is that worth over the span of a season? If SoluljaBreaux is right then all of baseball has been doing it wrong. They need more below average arms in the outfield so their opponent will not play conservatively and so fewer runs will be given up.
A novel idea.

Stevenson makes it difficult for teams to stretch that long single into a double or the double into a triple because he gets to the ball so quickly that the base runner wouldn't even think about testing the worst arm in baseball.

O and by the way, Stevenson turned a loss into a win with a throw...imagine that.

I don't think anyone is ridiculing Stevenson. We were all happy he made the play and it was certainly a good play for us. Don't confuse the bigness of the play for it being a great throw. We are blessed to have Stevenson out there. I'm just differing with those who would say he's clearly the best outfielder in college baseball.
