re: Mississippi Non Resident License

Posted by stubby33 on 11/20/24 at 9:23 am to
Anyone who was born in MS (native son) is eligible to buy a specilal lifetime license. I bought one about 30 years ago for $1000 and have been able to hunt and fish all these years. I have no idea what the cost would be today. Those eligible should investgate. This license covers all game that are legal to hunt.

Strike Out Percentage/Major Problem

Posted by stubby33 on 5/27/23 at 9:03 am
Team has a major problem in making contact with the ball. In the last two games out of 54 outs made by LSU there were 35 strike outs (65%.) This means the defense has no chance to drop a popup, boot a ground ball, lose a ball in the sun etc. By striking out you have no chance of sacrifice flies or a scoring by fielders choice. There is simply no pressure on the defense. Take a look at the SEC strikeout stats of Jones, Dugas, Thompson and Jobert to see the main problem area. We will not be succesful if we don't do a better job of "moving the ball."

That be a Red Breasted Grosbeak!

I use treflan pre emergent on my clay peas and chufa summer plots. This prevents grass and most weeds from competing with your plantings while in the first stages.
of growth. Once your crop is up and shading the ground grass will have a hard time competing.

Roundup is ok to us to prepare your plots for plowing and a month is probably an appropriate length of time to wait before plowing and planting and applying the pre emerge. Just apply per the label. Try it next summer.
Hope you used the appropriate pre ermerge bon the plot before planting. Otherwise might have a problem

Yes Feduccia did get a look by the Dodgers this year and his batting avg certainly is a lot better in the pros. Might tell us something about the hitting coaches at LSU. However he is throwing out only 22% of base stealers in the pros. Won't cut it and also still has a PB problem. He will never catch in the majors in my opinion. Maybe 1st base?

Worst catcher I have seen as a starter for LSU had to be Hunter Feduccia (2018). Lifetime 233 hitter I referred to him as Mr. Passball.

Biggest problem was his arm. You just have to be able to throw to play outfield in the big leagues.

Mark Laird

What is the status of Mark Laird? Can't find and stats on him for 2016. Injured???

Batting average with men in scoring position has to be well below .200. Anyone have that statistic?

What's Wrong With Foster

Posted by stubby33 on 5/1/15 at 10:41 am
Jared Foster is hitting .209 for the last 12 games and his average has fallen to .278. Seems to be unable to take a good swing with runners in scoring position. For example, last night was up with the bases loaded, 0 outs and takes two fastballs down the middle and then strikes out on a ball two foot in front of the plate. He doesn't seem to be able to adjust to what the pitchers are doing to him. Since he is playing because of his bat (fielding average lowest of the starters at .956) he needs to figure it out in a hurry because crunch time is almost upon us.

Agree completely.
Take a look at all the outfielders in the majors and list the names who have below average arms. Short list, there are none. All I'm saying is that to be the best outfielder in college baseball you must be able to throw (and run and hit for power).

Those good arms in the outfield do make the opposition play more conservatively. I really don't understand why SouljaBreaux thinks that by having good arms in the outfield and making the opponents take less chances they have more opportunity to score. They make it difficult for teams to stretch that long single into a double or the double into a triple. They make it difficult for a run to score from second on a hard hit single. How much is that worth over the span of a season? If SoluljaBreaux is right then all of baseball has been doing it wrong. They need more below average arms in the outfield so their opponent will not play conservatively and so fewer runs will be given up.
A novel idea.
When I hear Ronnie Rantz say that Stevenson is probably the best defensive outfielder in college baseball I cringe. There is no doubt he can chase down fly balls with the best. However, he has what is known as a "poor" arm. Not average, but poor. Mechanics are terrible.

That is why Alabama challenged him from deep short stop. They played the odds and came up short.

It is really a shame because you cannot develop a good or great arm. You either have one or you don't.

You do not see ANY major league outfielders without at least good arms. A major handicap for him attaining the next level.

Doesn't expain the lack of agressive plays on 1st, 2nd, and third downs.
Wonder how much would be said this morning if LSU would have scored on the hail mary? State obviously was not trying to score when inside the 5 yard line with less than 5 minutes remaining in game. They even refused to kick a field goal on 4th down. What was Mullen thinking? Trying to be the good guy and not run up the score. If LSU would have made the improbable comeback he would have been in deep dodo.

Loudest Stadium!!!!

looks like another outlet ranks stadiums for loudness.

On second thought assists are probably not a very good indicator of anything as a outfielder with a cannon probably is not tested very much by base runners whereas weak armed outfielders have probably many more opportunities as runners will take more chances against them. In short, assists from the outfield can be misleading.

Stevenson throws "across his body" which means he doesn't turn his shoulder toward the target. I know everyone raves about his ability to go get fly balls but he gives up a lot defensively. Long singles can be turned into doubles, flyouts to the outfield can result in runners tagging and advancing. These shortcomings were pointed out a couple times by ESPN analysts during the year. Did he and Laird have any assists during the year???

Why wasn't Laird drafted ??

I recall a thread from a week or so ago about the certainty of Laird being drafted and the possiblity of him signing . What gives??
