Take a look at the RBI, BA, etc #s for the season. Romero should have had been at the plate last night. Coach won't talk about this at the next meeting.

I am very happy you're not the coach.

The next meeting isn't until September. That should give you enough time to scrounge up $300 and you can ask Mainieri why he didn't bat Romero yesterday.....

Not now with his struggles both at the plate and in the field.

Pap is playing solid behind the plate again and actually hitting from the right side.. he's been awful from the left side though.

I think I am okay with Pap starting, however I am not okay with not using Romero in key pinch hitting spots like the other day vs Florida. He has proven time and time again to be clutch in those moments. No reason to go to a freshman. Proven/Veteran > Lefty/Righty matchup with a freshman.

Romero is our best bat off the bench and he should get into the games where we are struggling offensively.. either a pinch hitter or as a replacement player.

I'm sure they will figure out what's best for us.

Pap is far superior to Romero defensively and appears to be starting to hit. As far as my opinion goes, he continues to be our starting catcher.

Yes I do....I'm afraid that's the position he is going to check my prostate in....

Look at most recent performances too as well as the entire season.

Romero is in a slump. He's struggled versus hard throwing righties especially those with a hard slider.

If memory serves he struggled mightily v Florida in BR. Dunning and Anderdon if memory serves had his number.

Look at the big picture and then look consider Mainieri has a great idea of what Romero is best suited for and I'm sure there are plenty of reasons for letting Jordan swing away on 3-1 and for not pinch hitting Romero against those righties.

But it's baseball and there are percentages, but no certainties.

Fair enough. What do the stats tell you? BA, RBI, slugging %--.

I can't believe the people saying they want to bench out leading homerun hitter, RBI leader, and the guy with the highest SLG% on the team.

It's a slump, most of which was against Florida who has the best pitchers in all of college baseball.

Easy now. He's telling you that the majority of the stollen bases in the last 4 games he started weren't on him. That's a fact.
One important factor that isn't being considered is respect. It seemed as if the more Romero struggled, the less they respected his ability to defend the steal. This has a much greater effect, not only on the percentage of successful steals but also the number of attempts.

As it stands right now based on attempts, Pap still seems to get a healthy amount of respect from the other teams which is perhaps why CPM did not pinch Romero for Pap, They weren't even trying to steal 2nd in those late innings, which was a factor in our favor.

If you examine the numbers, Romero has caught 8 less games, he has the same number of passed balls as Paps, and teams attempt to run on him more, with greater success.

My best guess as to why he didn't pinch hit, and not that I agree, but if we happen to tie the game, he gets burnt because we'd have to sub in a 3b for him thus giving us no backup catcher going into extras. The only thing I can think of.

I'm actually ok with the Wofford PH. Someone else has to step up and get clutch hits besides Romero and Krob all the time.

Last year, both Chinea and Hale slumped big time in the NCAA tournament. Both finished with only 1 hit throughout the entire thing. Never benched.

I'm not saying they should have. But Romero doesn't get that kind of rope. And not saying he should either... He needed to sit to get his head straight. He's better than what he's been playing. We've all seen it. He knows it. He's harder on himself than anyone. He needs to learn to learn, if that makes sense. Instead of letting emotions get the best of him.

We talked about the Romero vs Pap defense since the beginning of the season. Is giving up a passed ball worth 100 points BA, homerun, RBI's potential? It's not. That is why Romero became the starter.

Having said that I had no problem with him being benched because of the slump. But if we think he can just come in, in the bottom of the 9th and always win the game, that's not realistic.

Yeah, why PH the guy with the most HRs and highest slugging % ? Makes sense to me. Solid coaching move.

Watching Romero at the plate the past couple of weeks, he wouldn't have touched Anderson's slider in the 9th with a 10 foot pole. This isn't some sort of sinister plot against him or extreme incompetence on the part of the coaching staff. It was a simple baseball decision that virtually every coach in the game would have made....so get the frick over it.
