This comment means nothing,

The reason it was a situation this year is because of 4 teams. In the situation with a 2 loss team it is never a guarantee that they would get in the playoff regardless if the QB gets injured or not. Yes, the two situations are different but also an injury to our QB with a 2 loss 10 win regular season team would not make me anymore nervous about getting into because it would not be a guarantee.

The reason why its such a "shock" is because this is the first undefeated Power 5 Conference Champion to not make the playoff. So again you are over thinking it.

I was reading the OP, trying to follow along, and I kept thinking of Norman Bates in "Psycho."

If we are only "10ish" then we have no room to complain. Anyone who gets in ranked lower than 8 really has no business being in a playoff.

We need to learn how to use injuries to our advantage. If a key player misses a game or most of a game and we lose, we shouldn’t be penalized or, at the very least, the other team shouldn’t get credit.

Here’s my thing. A big football school from the SEC (Bama, UGA, LSU, soon Texas, OU, Ole Miss) is not getting left out in FSU’s position.

If LSU lost JD for the season, Nuss won against aTm, and Collins won the SEC championship, then Nuss came back, there is zero chance they’d be left out for a one loss team if LSU ran the table.

You're over thinking this by a lot. If it was a 12-Team playoff this year FSU would still be in.

Big difference between getting a 1st round bye and getting sent to Athens or Columbus to play a 1st round game on the road. This is a terrible precedent for everybody.

There’s a big difference, sure. But you’re also talking about needing to slide 4+ spots for that to happen.

If you’re realistically in that scenario - looking at a first round bye but then failing the “eye test” because your starting QB gets hurt - it’s more likely that the worst case is a first round home game instead. I don’t see a team getting dropped from #4 to #9 after winning a conference championship.

I don’t think the precedent is that concerning, really. I think FSU got shafted, don’t get me wrong. But beyond that.. I’m not worried about it at all.

The scenario described in the OP does indeed sound unfortunate, but this is something many, many teams could face. Yes, it happened to Florida State this season, as not one, but two QBs went down with injuries. That certainly impacted their chances of marking the four team college football playoffs.

As eight more teams will qualify for the playoffs beginning next season, there is a better chance something like that won't happen.

Every season, fans of a team hope that certain key performers don't go down with season ending injuries. That's just the reality of how today's college football goes.

Then all of a sudden Nussmeier (or some other very key player) gets injured. We end up barely beating Arkansas in an ugly game as our backup QB struggles to get offense going,

Here's how I know that excuse by the committee to keep FSU out is a bunch bullcrap.

They didn't want a poor offensive showing by the NOles to sully the playoff, but NOT ONE frickING PERSON said a damned thing about how crappy Michigan's offense was against Iowa. Not to mention, they all sat on their collective hands to let a school that blatantly cheated not only stay in the playoff, but that team is actually the top seed.

It is all fricking bullshite.
