Well that is a different can of worms. The columbia, south carolina marriott doesn't have clean running water right now and just got internationally shite on for their handling of evacuees in this storm.

I don't think your status helped you much at all

We booked a hotel in Columbia with a No Cancellation stipulation. Decided to donate the room to a family in need in the area. Encourage others to do the same

Here's an idea---keep your flight and hotel. Fly in, check in the hotel and watch
LSU kick their asses on tv. When the game is over, head out and find some folks that are in need of some help and spend the rest of the day with them. Then go back to your clean, comfortable hotel, cleanup and get some sleep in your nice dry bed. Fly home as scheduled. I promise you will think that's the best money you ever spent!

Most credit cards offer protection from this (natural disasters), mine offers up to $10k. I had no issues whatsoever, hotel didn't even charge me and I was past the refund period, otherwise Chase would reimburse me.

Guy in your office sounds like a fool, tell him to call CC company.

lucky duck, I didn't want to wait for the charge to go through so I didn't get to keep my rewards.

Because canceling and crediting to a later flight I'm going to make lets me get some back as opposed to none.

The airfare loses 200 dollars worth of value though to get that.

It wasn't pay a fee just for canceling.

Again, call your credit card company and deny the charge....case closed. They have no signature. They WILL lose their dispute.

Deny a charge made months ago a few days before a flight? That's pretty transparent, and will ding my history with both the airline and my card even if I get a refund.

It sucks but I'm not going to cheat an airline just because I don't like it.

You sounded so smart and savvy until this part. Why wouldn't you want free internet for life?

Because a lot of it would be lying lol I'm ok with just stretching the truth to only pay about half each month.

You think the airline cares about 1 person in that way? Nothing will ding a history with the airline. Like I said speak to escalation department. Every corporation has one for customer service. Let them know entire story. Let them know you don't want to cancel you want to be refunded in points to fly with them later. Cancel is a terrible word to use. They aren't losing anything because only about 65-70% at the most of the people will actually use those points so they come ahead.

Anyone who decided to fly out yesterday or this morning really doesn't deserve a refund, just for the simple fact of being a dumb arse. Because if anyone payed any attention to what was going on in South Carolina since Monday after noon, they would have known the game wasn't going to get played in South Carolina.

Delta helped me change my flight no charge. Bought my original flight through points. Not sure if that helped me. They hooked it up with first class too! Flying from Houston to Atlanta then Baton Rouge. No direct flights which was the only issue I had.

Your not denying it, you are saying you can't and won't and are giving plenty of advance, including it being declared a disaster area
