At Linebacker this year without Devin? Definitely not discrediting DWs outstanding year . I just for some reason believe this might be our most productive group in years at the position. A year of maturity and a strong offseason growth for guys like Divinity and Phillips plus the fact they are natural leaders and know it’s their time to shine and step up.

FIFY

The guys this year will ball out, but it'll be hard to live up to DW40.

DW had to make so many plus due to inconsistency on the DL, mostly due to lack of depth. Thank G d he was up to it.
This year the depth is better and we have quality backers returning.

If our DL is better this season at pass rush and run D, then it is possible to be better than last season.

If DL is status quo, no way LSU D is better after losing GW and DW.

Specifically at ILB - I doubt it.

OVERALL at LB if Chaisson lives up to the hype, I can see it.

Devins my all time 2nd favorite tiger to Kyle Williams I made post on the recruiting board pumping this kid up when he was in high school.

His intangibles and speed are the best I’ve ever seen at Linebacker. I just don’t think his leadership on and off the field can be overstated. All the talent in the world doesn’t mean a thing without discipline.

With that said- I remember going into 2011 and being very worried about losing Patrick Peterson and Kelvin Sheppard.

Jacob Phillips isn’t Devin White but he’s the best mike in the SEC IMO. Including Dylan Benedict Moses.

and Drake Nevis.

in 03, we were coming off losing Bradie. and look what happened. like I said a few weeks back, lose all world LB, field GOAT defense.

We have Chaisson back, better depth at CB and DL. We have a rotation at NT now with Shelvin and Ika. You can't replace Devin White, but as a whole this should be a better defense. I like Fehoko at DE vs NT. With a better DL the LBs should be free to flow to the ball.

With the upgrade at DL and CB I fully expect Aranda to dial up more blitzes and get exotic with his blitz packages.

Does anyone think Damone Clark and/or Kendall McCallum can make a difference this year?

Yea i think we will be significantly better on defense. Here's why:

1. Chaisson back
2. D line returning and added depth
3. lose greedy, but pick up stingley = DBU
3a. Dont forget abt K Fulton
4. love john battle, but we had better guys behind him
5. Phillips Queen Divinity are expected to be monsters
6. Jacoby Stevens
7. better offense helps a defense

We haven't returned a team like this in a while. 1 year of experience and 1 year of growing/maturing goes a long way in CFB.

No LB will be as good or better than Devin but overall defense could be better with improved DL play and Chaisson back

I love Devin to death but we’ve said many times before “oh we lost so and so.” Look at Debo, Beckwith, etc

I just think with Devin leaving the players individually know it’s time to put up that extra rep in practice and focus more knowing he isn’t there to clean up after them.

I don’t think they’ll be much drop off at White’s position. His other-worldly athleticism was great to have, but not nearly as great as it will be in the pros where they isolate linebackers much more effectively than they do in college.

Overall the linebacker position will be much better next year than last. Chaisson is a much bigger piece than Devin White because his position is so much more important. And we are loaded with talent and depth at the other LB positions.

Yes, the defense should be a lot better than last year. All the returning players should be better than they were, and we add Ika and Stingly, and maybe Brooks.

With the experience and space eaters we have coming back up front, the LBs should eat

I don't think people realize the impact Ika is going to make on this defense. Plus the fact Shelvin will come in ready to be the player he is capable of being. Our dline is going to dominate the trenches. Ika is going to be a force in the middle. With his ability to collapse the pocket it will open up the outside for our pass rushers. And this is going to help our DB's in coverage. This will be the best defense LSU has had in a long time and the best under Aranda.

No one at LB is anything close to White as Devin made plays not many people can, plus his speed helped him make those plays. You cannot teach that.

However, as a group, and because we have most of the experience back on the DL plus Chaisson back, makes the LB job a bit easier. For the middle LB- Divinity, Queen, Phillips, Baskerville and Damone Clark now 6'4" over 240, we will be fine with these five guys with experience inside. In addition with the awesome freshmen Marcel Brooks, Donte Starks and Kendell McCallem, we will have 8 guys fighting for the 4 positions of starters/backups

When White was suspended, Queen filled in nicely. Overall I believe the team will be more talented.
