after watching him in the 2019 season NFL teams have reason to be somewhat cautious about using a 1st round pick on him. 2019 compared to his play in 2018 looked like two completely different players. Can it all really be written off to a nagging injury?
Delpit is going in the top half of the first round. He will be a superstar in the NFL, and every NFL team knows this.

quote:Its not complete BS. It’s a fact that’s why everyone, including the head coach is saying it, stupid shite.
The whole injury excuse used for the poor performance by Delpit (and LSU’s defense as a whole) for most of the season is complete BS.
Yet people keep parroting it. Even respected analysts.
quote:Oh great. So you admit that you don’t know why Delpit struggled and in the same sentence say that you have a “theory” and for sure know why he didn’t struggle lol.
Though I have a theory, I don’t know for sure why they struggled. Sure as hell wasn’t injuries though.
Get your shite together

Soooooo, his 2018 season EARNED him the 2019 Pre-season hype. So which season do you think he played like the Thorpe winner????
My post should make it clear I do not think he won the award based off his play in 2019.
Not sure what you are arguing?

Even though he was injured most of the season, he still made more big plays on defense than any other player.
He seems to have a good knowledge of the game and anticipates very well.

People are missing the most important factor. In 2018 Delpit had John Battle, Greedy, Devin White, Jacoby, and Fulton by his side and in front of him. He was a free lance player who was used by Aranda in a lot of different ways and schemes that helped him shine.
In 2019 he had Fulton still there and a new true freshman in Stingley to his sides. He had no serious help at SS all season and in fact had to play that many times. As the season progressed the other players around him got better and his opportunities to play like he did in 2018 came back some but not all the way. Then add in he played hurt with a High ankle sprain.
That does not explain away his missed "cut" tackles which from looking at his draft grade were a big detractor.

Delpit was a good player with the Tigers, but needs to learn how to tackle!

How many tackles did he miss in 2018? He knows how to tackle.

He's a safety, so its not really a priority position early in the draft. In the sense that a team would feel the need to reach for a guy based on his 2018 vs a bad 2019.
He's still going to get drafted pretty high based on his 2018. Just not as high if he would have came out that season.

2019 cost him 10's of millions of dollars in his 1st contract ... he will have a chance to make that up provided he plays hard and proves he can tackle big time wide receivers and running backs...

It’s going to be hard to take anyone seriously ITT who insinuates that Delpit deserved the Thorpe Award in 2019. I think we all like Grant and want him to succeed in the NFL, but if we’re being objective - he was very far removed from being the best DB in CFB in 2019. He was far removed from being the best DB on LSU in 2019 for that matter.

He’s big enough to play box LB
NOPE I love the guy but NOPE.

It amazes me that 25 people and counting could disagree with that. Guess you should expect the P&G glasses on TD though. I’ve never been more disappointed by a player’s performance vs. preseason expectations than I was by Delpit this season. Granted, he got better as the year went on, but he was horrible in several key games and key moments this year. He didn’t play like a top 5 pick, period

The fact that teams can't have him checked out medically is really hurting Grant. Are you getting the 2018 Delpit or the 2019 Delpit. At what point are teams willing to take the gamble? Second round? Yes. Top 10? Maybe not.

He sure as hell didn’t win it off of his 2019 season.

Poster RunDMC commented that Delpit won the Thorpe based on his 2018 season. Another poster replied, "No he Didn't", then you replied to said poster that Delpit won the Thorpe based on his preseason hype.
So my point was basically poster RunDMC is correct in that the 2018 season is what won the Thorpe for Delpit. So basically my question to you was, without his 2018 performance, do you think there would have been preseason hype for Delpit??? At the end of the day, his 2018 performance and the 2019 Preseason hype goes hand-in-hand.
