3-4 is fantastic if you have the horses up front to run it, but LSU does not. Bad thing is LSU doesn't have the horses up front to run a 4-3 either.

LSU's defensive line has been soft for a while now.

3-4 leaves us too vulnerable in edge containment against the run. When Rice and La Tech can run wide, you need to make a change.

I just wish we’d actually blitz out of the 3-4 instead of drop back, it could work

3-4 can work great especially if you can get that plug in the middle like vince wilfork was for the patriots for so many years. losing chaisson was a brutal blow to the defense because it was either come up with exotic blitzes to get pressure or do a 3 man rush. The de/olb position suffered greatly once chaisson was gone and couldn't get pressure with a 4 man rush. Even if we were in a 4-3 I don't think much would have changed especially since this has probably been the weakest we've been on the d line in a very long time.

The reason you think a 4-3 alignment is better is the reason you aren’t the coach. Lawrence and Fehoko at tackle. Farrell and Logan at end. White in the middle. Phillips and Divinity at OLB. We get beat to the edge on every play. And 4 lineman that still generate no pass rush.

I could count on one hand the number of times Glen Logan made plays or impacted a play. If Lavar Edwards were on this roster he would start and he was a bench guy his senior year before going pro. When you have a DL that is that deep compared to now where losing Chaisson cripples your entire ability to pass rush....it’s a roster talent issue not a scheme issue.

Tired of 4th and Aranda rushing 3 and dropping 8!!

A&M tore this formation up. Almost guaranteed a first down, and he kept playing it.
I like Aranda. Pressure on the A&M QB was working. No pressure, and he sat in the pocket until someone got open. Towards the end of the game he was making some bad throws. Rushing 3 allowed him time. When he felt rushed he made bad decisions because he was tired. When a person is tired you want them to make a quick decision. It will likely be a poor one.

Losing Chaisson was a huge loss. Had he been available, you would have seen a different defense

This. Everyone on this board bitches constantly about our one-size-fits-all unimaginative boring arse offense, but when our great defensive coordinator spends all offseason crafting a defense tailored to our personnel and some of our key personnel gets hurt and makes that scheme less effective, they want him fired. It’s ridiculous

The problem right now is our 3 down linemen aren't Quinnen Williams good, it's all about having the right/elite personnel.

The rant is again showing how football stupid it is. There is a reason the majority of college football teams that rank up near the top play an odd front. There's a reason
Aranda is considered one of the best in the nation. You people don't know defense more than Aranda. I'd bet the vast majority of yall complaining don't even know LSU runs a gap control scheme and can't draw up the most basic aspect of this defense.

In today's offense's the 3-4 is more effective because you have faster linebackers on the field more, for the quick passes, misdirection type of plays. It can hurt on the inside run that is why nose tackle is so important in a 3-4. Love Fehoko, but he is not a NT. He played out of position most of the year because LSU didn't have a true NT. Not until Shelvin started to get he shite together and Alexander got healthy.

The run defense wasn’t as good as usual. Yes we got some tackles for loss. But we also couldn’t stop teams when we needed to

I agree but you can NOT depend on ONE man to make a difference at ANY position.

Unless you have studs like bama on the line and linebacker, you are better off with a 4-3 scheme. I think we are borderline at this point.
