Anybody feel like this football season is the most critical we have had in a decade?

Due to the facts:

We are building a monstrous recruiting class.

We are claiming a rejuvenated offense scheme. (Again)

Building pressure to win against the gumps.

Finally have a more than capable, experienced QB at the helm.

New AD trying to turn a corner.

I just don’t think there’s been such a pressure filled season like this year will be. Seems like we Could be on the brink of greatness or implosion.

I actually think last year was the most critical with the lingering doubts about the Orgeron hire. Which for the moment have pretty much been erased.

That said, they’re all critical in today’s win-now environment.

Critical to Orgeron

Entertainment for fans

Nothing is critical coming off of a Fiesta Bowl win

I think it’s a pivotal year for Orgeron. Either he makes a run at something meaningful this year or it’s likely he’s not the guy to do it. This team is loaded and experienced. No reason not to be a playoff team

There should always be pressure and high expectations for LSU to be successful and contend for championships. That should be the norm that comes with the job. But those standards appear to have faded over the years.

There is no such thing. We should have a great season. I am going to pray for cool weather, great bourbon, fire pits and getting my patio completed to sit back and enjoy!

Whether we win big or lose a little, we will be just fine.

Agree. If we had gone 7-5 the narrative would be "Yawyaw can't coach and the program is in decline", and that would have undermined recruiting in a talent rich year in Louisiana. It would have snowballed from there.

Now we have a good 2019 recruiting class and will be able to win on talent alone for the next few years.

I still think last year was the most critical. To see which direction the program was heading. We had a good year to build on so will be top 5 preseason. If last year had gone badly things could have easily snowballed. Which is why burrow and Tracey adds were so huge. I think just those 2 guys gave us 2-3 more wins than we would have had.

We're about to start beating Alabama again and restore balance at the top of the SEC.

Of course, Clemson is officially the new Alabama with their hardware and coaching staff (mainly Venables so long as he remains there) and their absolutely otherworldly and unprecedented recruiting success. But at least Clemson isn't in the same division of the same conference that we are.

The ramifications of this season will of course be huge. If we lose to gumpville again and fail to make a NY6 bowl, obviously we lose our momentum. If we beat them, contend for the SEC or win it, and/or make the CFP, our momentum increases.

But as tired as I get of talking about Alabama, it truly is the big obstacle. You can listen to Saban's most recent comments where he said that his team did great up until after beating LSU where he claims they lost focus. That speaks volumes and shows that even though they've owned us for greater than half a decade, Saban still has them circling the LSU game on the calendar every year.

When we beat the gumps it will deflate them. But we can't let the victory overinflate our collective egos either like Saban claims it did to his team. We still have important games to play after that, including putting aTm back in their place.

Again, absolutely hate to continue to drone on about the significance of the Alabama game, but it's the first mountain that must be climbed before we can turn our focus to different things. Without competing with, and beating Alabama at least half the time, we can't continue an upward trajectory.

I agree. This is where I am. I am fully confident the program is on better footing than it was when O got here. The staff is stable, the talent is here with more on the way....there. is nothing to do now but enjoy the damn season

Incorrect. We are on the best trajectory we have been on and have not beat Alabama since 2011.

Putting so much emphasis on the Alabama game is making our fans absolutely miserable.

When the guy who hired you just 2yrs ago gets relieved of his duties, you better believe things can get critical real fast.

Having said that, I’m looking for a floor of 11 wins.
