Me and a buddy are heading to t-town for the bama game and were thinking about doing this. Anybody have a review? Can you drink on it? Is it comfortable? TIA

Yes you can drink.
Biggest downside is the schedule is a crapshoot. Never know if it's going to leave on time / stay on schedule.
It's a little grungy.
But overall it's not a terrible way to go.

Used it a few times between Nola and Birmingham. Was about a 7 hour ride. Large comfortable seats and plug ins for phones and computer. Plus you can drink. Not a bad way to get to a game.

I rode it up from Slidell a few years back. We left about 45 min late for no apparent reason. I think by the time we finally got there we were close to 2 hours behind schedule. As long as you aren't in a rush it's a pretty fun and cheap way to travel. You will DEFINITELY meet some characters on there.

Did it in 2011. It’s a long damn ride on the way back when you’re ready to get home.

Many people ride it from BHM to NO for games, and use it as a "Party Train" since you can bring your own drinks.

Did a group trip 5 years ago. Had old drunk ladies hanging from the luggage racks. Jello shots, finger sandwiches, whiskey and beer. Good times, except for the game itself. Left at like 6am from Nola.

AMTRAK is at the mercy of the freight carriers and cede right of way a few times which pushes them off schedule.
I've taken the trains numerous times (hammond to memphis) and NYC to Savannah. It's a good time but pack your own food. Train food is vending machine quality

I have taken the train from NOLA to Tuscaloosa on the Friday before the Bama game several times. If you are looking to party and have fun, this is the way to travel. This train is essentially a wild tailgate on wheels. People board the train with huge ice chests and all kinds of booze and food. People start boozing hard as soon as the train leaves the station and it doesn't stop until the train arrives in Tuscaloosa. The last time I rode several years ago, the local Tuscaloosa news was at the station to film the LSU fans stumble off the train. It's an experience you'll never forget. Watch out for the cherry bombs.
The train usually leaves on time at 6AM and you arrive around noon. If you are not looking to party, book a sleeper cabin in the back of the train away from the party.
If you can find a ride home, do that. I have never taken the train home, but I have heard it gets back to NOLA late and after Friday and Saturday in Tuscaloosa, all you want to do is get home ASAP. Good luck and have fun!

Doesnt the alumni association do a train trip for the bama games? Or maybe thats a different organization? Jimmy Ott used to always talk about it on the radio.

Sounds like a good time. What are the chances of them having the saints game on on the way back?

I know a chick if y’all want to pull a train in Tuscaloosa.

It’s the best way to go imo.
Scenery, food, drink, the occasional hot girl.
Do it

There's usually a TV in the Bar Car. You can also stream it yourself over their wifi

Have done it twice with a small group of friends that tagged along with a much larger corporate group. I thought it was great, we basically tailgated out of our coolers all the way there. Everyone shared food and drinks between each other. You will need to pace yourself because it's a long slow train ride. Some folks were not happy coming back because we lost, but for the most part the party on the way home was just as good.
The kicker was was getting back to New Orleans around 10 pm and then driving back to BR to be at work Monday.
