We were walking up to NEZ from north side of campus; came up the west side of PMAC by Mike's cage & gift shop (my family had received a confirmation e-mail that a commemorative brick for a dearly departed loved one had been installed; we wanted to find it)...in front of gift shop they had strung up two yellow ropes, about thigh-high, to make a corridor for the band to go in the PMAC and play for TAF/ fat cats/ OT ballers - from the road to the end of the bldg/ NW corner of tiger habitat. There were two old gray-haired gentlemen in Staff T-shirts standing in the sidewalk, who were loudly and in an agitated manner, clearing everyone off the sidewalk- what's worse is they were stupidly shoving everybody into the cramped area in front of the gift shop rather than the other side with about twenty times the space. A few people here and there were stepping over the rope and crossing to the other side- these two guys were acting like this was The Crime of The Century, screaming and hollering, physically grabbing people and shoving them back, "You can't cross! The band is coming through!" A girl had stepped over one rope and was lifting the rope on the other side to go under it; one guy grabbed the rope from behind her and jerked it backwards forcibly, knocking her to the ground; he then stood over her yelling at her "GET BACK! You can't cross!" At this point several witnesses began yelling a few choice words and suitable "WTF, dude?", etc, at these two clowns...it got loud. Three troopers from the road heard the commotion and came over and joined in patrolling up and down to hold the over-crowded mass in front of the gift shop captive...

I can understand clearing a path for the band to march through, but here's the problem that made this excessive and ridiculous- the band had not even APPEARED at the top of the hill yet, yet alone marched down, stopped, and played the Fight Song before continuing! These two idiots were acting like the sidewalk would explode if anybody stepped on it, and it was at least 25-30 minutes until the corridor was needed...There was absolutely no reason why this had to be dealt with in such a manner- "Excuse me, I need to get across here?", "OK, come on, hurry up" could have been the standard and save the violence and shouting until 5 minutes before the band finally gets there.

Whoever those two old men were, somebody needs to fire them, or at least re-assign them to a concession booth or somewhere where they are less tempted to let "the power" go to their heads and allow them to treat the fans in the manner in which they behaved...I was not the only person steamed and outraged, and it was not just the bourbon talking.

I know you are old and all of that good stuff, but why did you take the time to type out all of this garbage? Do you feel better?

All you can really do is feel bad that someone gets that excited about the slightest bit of authority given to them. Its a sad sight.

On a side note, i remember Ole Miss game 95 before they started putting barricades a little farther up the hill. As the crowd gathered forcthe pregame I got pushed into the ranks. When the band started running down the hill I had no choice but to go with them almost all the way to the stadium till a woman in a suit with a radio pulled me out.

They were doing their jobs.

You and the other fans were causing problems.

It doesn't matter if the bands not there yet. If they tell you to go a different way and don't cross and you start hoping ropes and disobeying the rules they will probably get agitated and use force.

You really should work on your reading comprehension, Harry.

You really should work on knowing which LSU song is which. Our fight song is Fight for LSU. The band plays Pregame at the bottom of the hill.

I don't know if this is an accurate telling of events or not. But regardless, I guarantee

If these two were as big of assholes as you explained, I highly doubt Ray Lewis will have the patience to work with them.

True, but what is the deal with roped off areas that make people suddenly want to cross?

Understand they're trying to make a path but if they acted like you described I would have said something to one of these old shits.

I saw the whole thing. It didn't go down at all like OP suggests. The girl that started the ruckus was running back and forth across the line like it was a game with 2 dickhead white trash guys. Security was fed up and did their job. Also, the was only like 5 minutes before the band got there. You could hear them coming.

I was there. You would have thought a race car was coming thru the way there forced everyone outside the ropes before there was ANY sight of the band.

Hopefully they can leave a crossing area away from the corner instead of just making everyone with plans on walking by to stop and wait.

OP should considered removing 20 words from his post. Would still read the same.

It was a mess. People kept jamming into the area where they expected to cross, and there was pushing and people were upset. There was very nearly a fight right next to me as one man didn't like the way that another frustrated man spoke to his woman. There was absolutely no need to block people from crossing the road when they did, and it created a dangerous situation.

I did this too! I don't remember what game it was but I think it was around that time and I was hustling down to the TAF event in the PMAC and was running down dalrymple because that was the only clear path.

Suddenly as I was weaving through the crowd I nearly ran into band members and checked up only to hear the Pre-game begin. I just stood there and looked to my right and saw I was in the last row of the band.

All of a sudden they began that high-stepping so I started high-stepping and then they started running down the hill like they do. I went with it and as the band was going into the stadium somebody tapped me on the shoulder and I knew I was busted so I just got out of line and continued on my way.

That was probably one of the most awesome things I've ever done. People would pay dearly for that experience and it just happened out of nowhere.

I think this is supposed to be on the music board or the band board.
