Any chance our 1st playoff game would be in Arizona instead of Atlanta?

Mates and fellow LSU alumns,

I'm going to be on holiday in Los Angeles for New Years and I was wondering if perchance LSU could wind up playing in Glendals (Phoenix), AZ for their first playoff game?

I think that since we'll likely be #1 seed they'd put us at the closest venue (Atlanta, unfortunately), but was wondering if that might not be correct?

TIA lads -

It depends on the opponent at the 4 seed. The committee won't put the 1 seed in a geographical disadvantage. I don't know if all 3 or Clemson, Georgia, and Bama would be a geographical disadvantage.

Yes, if the season were over today, LSU would play UGA. The committee would put that game in AZ so as not to give an advantage to the lower seeded team. They said this on the CFP show the other night.

Mate......try google!

The College Football Playoff Semifinals – the Peach Bowl and Fiesta Bowl this year – are on Saturday, December 28 and the national championship game is Monday, January 13

Atlanta could be a more economically feasible location for fans traveling from Louisiana or anywhere in the southeast. If LSU wants a lot of fans to travel to the semifinal game, assuming we get there as the #1 seed, then they should choose Atlanta as the location.

I was lucky enough to attend the UGA versus OU semifinal game in the 2018 Rose Bowl. There must've been at least 40K Dawg fans there. I'd love to see that kind of fan turnout for us.

Most likely going to be OU. Where would that be?

interdasting.

Did not know that, but make sense.

In reality, UGA will not be 4 seed if LSU is 1 seed. Only way LSU as a 1 seed plays on Arizona is if Bama or Clem's Son somehow wind up in the 4 seed.

I feel like any game for LSU and/or Georgia played in Atlanta would be a geographical advantage for LSU and/or Georgia, which means we are almost certain to be playing Glendale.

No, LSU will play in Atlanta if they are the #1 seed because that would mean UGA has 2 losses and is out of the CFP.

It would not be a clear advantage for Bama, Clemson or OU “the most likely teams to make the CFP that are close to Atlanta” to play them in Atlanta even though Bama and Clemson are much closer to Atlanta.

And they wouldn’t put LSU out in AZ if it were Oregon or Utah in the #4 seed because that would give them a clear advantage over LSU in distance to venue.

If we are the #1 seed we are Atlanta bound first! You can book that, if we are the #1 seed

We will not be playing in Glendale if we are the #1 seed, unless UGA is the #4 seed which for that to happen in the last CFP poll all kind of carnage had to happen.

Can you please explain to me how we will be #1 seed in the last poll and UGA remains #4 in the last poll?

What if is still massively in play here.
Current rankings
1. LSU 9-0
2. Ohio State 9-0
3. Clemson 10-0
4. Georgia 8-1

5. Alabama 8-1
6. Oregon 8-1
7. Utah 8-1
8. Minnesota 9-0
9. Penn State 8-1
10. Oklahoma 8-1

So if LSU, OU, and Clemson win out regular season and conference championships they are in.
OU and Clemson would probably go West. Almost surely with LSU playing any of the current 5-10.

But if LSU loses small to Georgia the most likely match ups are OU-LSU 1-4. And Clemson-Georgia 2-3. I think LSU goes to Arizona since Clemson is 110 miles and Georgia 73 miles away from Atlanta.

But what do I know?

I thought it was already set up that Peach Bowl was 1 versus 4

I think there is still a chance we play in AZ, but only if we loose in Seccg.

Undefeated we will play PAC 12 or big 12 in ATL.

I can't see how committe can put bama in if conference champs only has one loss. Would be different if their resume was good, but it's not.

Not really. There's no predetermined setup about which seeds go where, but the committee tries to make it so that the #1 seed has the best advantage. If we win out, along with Clemson so that they end up playing in the 2/3 game, we will probably end up in Atlanta in the 1/4 game.
