What does this even mean?

These were LSU's offensive efficiency rankings under Wade NATIONALLY

2018 - 33rd
2019 - 12th
2020 - 4th
2021 - 5th
2022 - 89th

That's ONE season out of 5 his team wasn't in the top 10% of offenses in the entire nation. In 2019, 2020, and 2021, LSU was in the top 15 of the NATION in points per game.

That's why when anyone criticizes his offenses at LSU they IMMEDIATELY send out a signal they have ZERO clue what they are talking about. It was his team's lack of defense that kept them from reaching greater heights...except in 2022 when that flipped (LSU was top 5 in defensive efficiency)

So let me revise the statement for you:

I just hope he brings as good an offense this time.

Agree

But when you lose 14 straight games and finish last in the conference after (what would have been) 4 years of NCAA Tournament appearances, people aren't eager to support you. Not because of a personal love for the former coach.

Agree but to act like the success and love of the former coach didn't add to it would be a lie.

Most coaches follow a guy that either left for a bigger job or got fired for losing. Its extremely tough to replace a successful coach that didn't spurn the fanbase. It was a tough situation and LSU fans were willing to give CMM his fair shake but he followed a guy that was TRULY loved by the fanbase so anything short of him would be criticized.

I like Wade and believe LSU basketball will be a better product. At the same time, I don’t expect any Final Four appearances.

i thought the rehire was too good to be true, but this board never gave up in their quest in getting him back, unbelievable and kudos to yall that pushed it

i will say this, there’s a small part of me that is a bit nervous that it won’t be like before…not as bad as the MM years but not as good as the WW years

I think we will be one of the top 3 programs in the sec, which puts us somewhere between a tournament team and final four team consistently. That’s not really opinion, either. Just look at the facts: Wade’s SEC teams were consistently elite, finishing with the second-most league wins (48) in his final four seasons (2019-2022).

I wish he could have his team from 2022.

Would have like to see what he could do with them.

The only 2 coaches that made it to the Sweet 16 this year who make less are Rick Pitino (St. Johns) and Ben McCollum (Iowa). I doubt there's a single Final 4 coach that would answer the phone for less than $6.5mm.

We got the best coach we could for the money. Wade will win at LSU. To what level is unknown, but it won’t be 17-55 in SEC play.

They just don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. They may as well be watching Bo-taoshi, their level of knowledge would be the same.

I'm bullish on Wade, but that is a high bar right out of the gate. Looking at the last three years that would require LSU going 13-5 in SEC play.

That said, I do see the path. Right now Florida and Alabama appear to be the consistent standard, with Tennessee just a slight notch behind. After that, there are a few programs that seem to slot into the next group (Vandy, Kentucky, Arkansas). I don't see LSU in Florida and Alabama's class right out of the gate (though anything is possible with roster turnover). Tennessee has been consistently good, but Wade seemed to have Barnes' number (4-1 after 2018).

It would be nice to see UNC do LSU a favor and remove Golden or Oats from the SEC. Pearl is gone. Barnes may not be far behind. Cal is inconsistent. Kentucky wants to excommunicate it's Pope

You know me, I always equate their basketball knowledge to a watching of Hoosiers.

They still forget that players had to tell Hackman (RIP) to just let Jimmy streetball it.

Dude, I was thinking the same thing lol. They think it’s 1951 with no shot clock. We need 7 passes before we start the offense lol. It’s like not realizing they don’t use wooden bats in college baseball. It’s that detached from the actual game.

First of all absolutely no one thinks we will be natty bound next year. But will wade had LSU as a top tier sec team while he was here.
This. I know the conference is better now, but that also means it attracts better talent overall.
quote:

He was one player away from being there I can guarantee you that.
And every single season (outside of 18/19) he was here, he would lose at least one recruit (usually more) on the eve of their signing/commitment because of hit pieces.

Just off the top of my head, he lost:

1. Nfale Dante (2x All Pac12, NBA player)
2. Lester Quinones (NBA player)
3. Moussa Cisse (AAC freshman of the year, Big 12 Defensive player of the year, 2x Big 12 All Defense, NBA player)
4. Blake Wesley (1st round pick, NBA player)

quote:

We will be competitive and we will be in the big dance more times than not that’s all that we care about.
All that you can ask for as an LSU fan.

Unlike baseball (national power) and football (national power and extremely fertile recruiting ground), the basketball program has to bootrstrap more than any other major program on campus. You can't just rely on Uhigh pumping out 4 NBA players every other year. You have to work your arse off and be unapologetic about it. Wade did that, and I think he'll do it again.

No list of what elite coach we could get because we aren’t an elite basketball school. We wouldn’t draw a top level coach. I just don’t think he is worth the $12M+ in buyouts it took to get him.

Would you take Bama's success in basketball lately?

Because I don't think it's unrealistic AT ALL to have Wade do something similar or better here. Especially with all the ASSFLUCKS removed from our administration that were constantly throwing obstacles in his way instead of having his back.

We have a greater than 90% chance of making the tournament in 2027.
