Yes but also its due to many fans not mentally "breaking up" with Wade. He was the first love that moved to another town. Sure we tried to move on and dated someone else but we always kept our fondness for the one that got away. Now he's coming back to town so we dump the placeholder, who was a very nice guy, for the bad boy we loved all along.
this actually is spot on

I don’t understand...are you agreeing he's not elite but we couldn't afford an elite coach?

It's not about being anti-pear, nor pro CMM. I don't think we could've hired anyone better, but that doesn't mean Wade is an elite coach. He was an elite recruiter, and an average to above average coach, which overall makes him a good coach. I think people have put him on a pedestal, since he had so much more success than McMahan, and because he brought that success to McNeese. Hiring Wade is exciting, but my expectations are for improvement, however I think we could've also improved anyway without hiring Wade. The Wade hiring is about excitement for fanatics, not coaching chops.

I wouldn’t put him up there with the elites, no. But he is a very good coach and he was in my opinion, the best realistic candidate.

I've also asked them REPEATEDLY to name 10 current HC with a better resume' than Wade during their first 12 years as a HC.

NOTHING but crickets.

I'm happy that we hired Wade, and Wade has a good record, but stats can lie, and 12 years of coaching is kind of random, so here is a list of 11 active coaches that have coached over 5 years with better records:
John Calipari
Bill Self
Rick Petino
Randy Bennett
Tom Izzo
John Becker
Sean Miller
Kelvin Sampson
Nate Oats
Matt Painter
Thad Matta

The following active coaches are also better, although their winning percentage is slightly lower:
Dan Hurley
Tom Scheyer
Tommy Loyd
Dusty May
Todd Golden
Rick Barnes
Brad Underwood

There here are several more with better records that coached recently or are coaching in the pros:
Dave Rose
Gregg Marshall
Tony Bennett
Jim Boeheim
Bo Ryan
Billy Donovan
Jay Wright

I feel this way and i think a lot of the "anti pear" people do

He brought this all on himself and is not a martyr
He's a good, not great coach
LSU likely couldn't get a better coach in the market
I never thought he'd be back for a host of reasons
I'm glad he's back
NIL has changed things, the SEC is insanely competitive, and i think it will be difficult for him to repeat the success he had earlier at LSU, but i hope he does

literally no one thinks this. Most just want the team to be competitive and be a regular in the tournament with every 3-4 years have a sweet 16 type run.

Your feelings hurt?

Why is the average poster on here an a-hole head days? Take you, for example.

To the OP, most of us are not anti-Wade. But I don't think most agree with the over the top praising of the guy. The number of threads treating him like a god are ridiculous. He had a solid win % here, but you guys act like he won 2 national championships in 3 years. You guys act like he is Jay Johnson.

I think you're a little naive. Anyone who is a realist here I don't believe has said title or bust.

In basketball, at LSU, we just want to be competitive and have it be fun. Get into the tournament more times than not while along the way making some runs.

I think for most, in basketball, that will do.

Of course it would be nice to make Final Four or better. But I don't think being absent that is going to get Will Wade ran off anytime soon.

I doubt that. Coach K was a stick in the mud.

It's the excitement WW brings that makes him likeable.

I asked FIRST 12 YEARS of their career. It's not "kinda random'' THAT IS HOW LONG WADE HAS BEEN A HEAD COACH. You can only FAIRLY compare Wade to the first 12 years of a career.

After next year, you can only compare the first 13 years of a career. It's not difficult to understand.

So please, once again name 10 active coaches that had a better first 12 years than Wade. That's a short list.

One more TRUE nugget: Wade has a better resume' than the great Coach K after 11 years. K didn't win his first title until his 12th season. Of course he became the greatest ever after that.

LSU MBB fans are generally realistic. Even before Wade was hired the first time, the expectations were a consistently competitive program, making the NCAAT 4 out of 5 years, with an occasional run. We were coming off the Brady roller coaster and the lows of TJ and CJJ. Wade absolutely met those expectations, even without real support from the AD. It’s why fans wanted him back, he was the best coach available we could have hoped to hire. We weren’t paying $6-$8 million for a coach.

It's really simple. Every new hire, everywhere, is compared to the previous coaches. It's human nature. In this instance the previous HC (Wade) was well liked and successful. Thus, the new HC (McMahon) had to at least reach that level to win approval. Fans just want a winner. They don't care where he/she comes from, or even how they do it. Just win. LSU fans were willing to support McMahon. Anyone who was at his very first SEC game vs. Arkansas can attest. But when you lose 14 straight games and finish last in the conference after (what would have been) 4 years of NCAA Tournament appearances, people aren't eager to support you. Not because of a personal love for the former coach. But because they simply loved watching their team win and don't like watching them lose.

Win and people like you. Lose and they don't. It's a very simple equation.

The ACC put out some content about the ACC tournament during conference tournament week. they did 1 episode on Coach K and he almost didn't make it at Duke. They wanted to run him out of their after a couple seasons and then, he had a big recruiting season and Duke started to become what we know it now. I heard T'Pear is very intelligent and we all know he can recruit. He was making progress when got let go. it will take a couple years, but the future is much brighter with General Pear back.

I never cared for him, but I can’t lose. If we start winning 20 games again, great. If he fails after 3-4 years, it’s “I told you so.”

I just hope he brings a more structured offense this time.
