Story says they broke in to recover items previously stolen from Jennings. This may not be as bad as it sounded at first.

Should have called the police when that happened then. Because they still broke into someone's apartment and stole stuff.
And the laptop was returned to Jennings a few days ago as well.

None of these kids seem to have issues making passing grades at our flagship university so how come it seems some of them lack self control? Is LSU that easy?

Ehh, they have to prove he purchased items. Does it say he even retrieved them back? Theft isn't a felony until you hit a certain amount of worth for things taken.

To tell you the truth, a bunch of people I use to hang with and know in high school (black, white, and hispanic), would have done the same thing if it's true about his stuff getting stolen. They made one true dumbass mistake and it's time to grow up from that line of thinking.
