I told my best friend today that I wouldn't come to his wedding over the Bama game. I said the only person I'd miss it for is my own brother.

My wife's best friend is her cousin who at the time was getting married in Austin Texas. It was the weekend of the LSU Auburn game back when it was the biggest game of the year! We were dating at the time but I said no way and stayed here and went to the game with my buddy taking her seat. One of the wildest games I've ever been too , it was the Troy Twillie interception game and if she had made me miss it we may have not gotten married! She gets it.

Lol that is right as I know full well...anniversary number 19 coming up. That bye week wedding date from nearly 20 years ago will reach up and bite you ever so often.

The beauty of this thread is it shows just how little perspective so many LSU fans have.

So many of you jackasses would be perfectly willing to sacrifice relationships with loved ones and friends just to watch a football game. You really have your priorities in the right place.

My best friends waited 3 years to make sure they could get the venue they wanted ON LSU'S BYE WEEK. That's how it's done if you're getting married during football season.

You guys are all nuts. You're willing to bail on family and friends for a game that you have no part in and there will always be another one. I get if its your 5th cousin that you haven't seen in 25 years, but if it's someone close to you then go be part of their biggest day of their lives and sacrifice one day of yours.

That said, we got married in May (sec baseball tournament weekend). The ONLY reason was because we knew most people feel like you assholes and didn't want either nobody to show up or for everyone to be huddled around a TV the whole time. Even then I was getting questions about the baseball game. One person even asked if it would be on during the ceremony.

You didn't even show up. Apparently your family was more important. What a jerk.

If it were my immediate family, sure, i would be there no matter what game is going on. (except my family wouldn't do that)

Cousins and friends of family, etc....sorry. Football season is considered a 'prior engagement'. I've got it scheduled out at least 40+ years.

Football in the South is far more than just a game. It's a cultural and community experience that we all love participating in. It involves a hundred thousand in the stadium and millions more across the state and country watching on TV and hosting game-watching parties. It's a gathering place for friends and family. It brings back fond memories from when we were kids as we build new memories with our children and new friends. The game itself (which I love) is an afterthought to many. It's the pageantry, tradition, and history that we all love.

It's like any other huge event. Would anyone schedule their wedding on the Fourth of July? Or Easter? Or Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years? What about on Super Bowl sunday? I would think most people would respect that their guests have lives and other plans, and they schedule their wedding with that in mind.

Avoiding scheduling a wedding on Saturdays in the South in the fall isn't nuts, it's polite.

August-the end of November is off limits. Already told the GF if/when we get married it will have to be between January-May. Summer is just too hot
