Not the same thing but weddings are scheduled on purpose.

"A man had 50 yard line tickets for a LSU game.

As he sat down, he noticed that the seat next to him was empty.

He asked the man on the other side of the empty seat whether anyone was sitting there.

"No," the man replied, "The seat is empty."

"This is incredible," said the first man.

"Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the LSU game, the biggest sporting event in the state and not use it?"

The second man replied, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This will be the first LSU game we haven't attended together since we got married in 1967."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else -- a friend or relative, or even a neighbor to take the seat?"

The man shook his head. "No, they're all at the funeral.""

Always shocked when people (especially LSU/SEC graduates!) do this when they live in the south. Even if you ignore that you're making your guests make a tough choice like that, the logistics of doing something that's already stressful (the wedding) in the middle of another stressful (everything that the community puts into football season) event is always a little mind boggling to me.

Funny post!

My gf's friend (who happens to be an ole miss fan/ graduate) is getting married in Mississippi on Saturday Nov 5... I told her to tell them congrats for me and for her to have a safe trip there. No way im ganna spend my LSU/Bama game around a bunch of ole miss fans...I'll make sure and ask her to give them a Geaux Tigers for me.

Wife wanted a Fall wedding and I told her I was ok with it but it had to be on a LSU bye weekend. No exception to that rule. All was planned accordingly and went off wit a hitch on that Bye weekend in November. I knew damn good and well on even an away game weekend it would stress out many guests.

I used to DJ weddings and other formal events & parties and it never amazed me to see a large congregation huddled around a tv or radio in the back of the establishment during football season... I used to often play LONG songs so I could go stand back there with them if they had a bigger TV (I always had my small walkman radio/tv with me).... I specifically remember watching the LSU Tennessee SEC championship at a wedding reception in downtown Nola with the groom and most of the wedding ... The place let them keep the place an hour later than scheduled and I didn't charge them either BC I got to watch the game too lol

When the game would end, the party would begin

ETA: my fiancé and i are in the middle of planning a wedding and I was very impressed that while touring venues, she was asked what time of the year we were planning on getting married and she instantly said that see knows fall and early winter are out of the question

You going?

A few years back I went to my nephew's wedding on Ole Miss game day.

It wasn't that bad. Went down the road to a small church, had the wedding and then headed back to the parent's house. The bride is a LSU freak, much bigger fan than my nephew. The reception had multiple TV's outside that were all tuned to the game. Every TV inside had the game on. Still a little distracting with all the people but better than the wedding being during the game.

There were two or three times more people at the reception than the wedding. Multiple people said "I heard they're showing the game tonight" when they arrived. Free beer, drinks and food probably didn't hurt the crowd either. Hell of a party and LSU won !!!

Wife is maid of honor at a wedding during the SEC Championship.

Already decided if they don't have TVs, I'm bringing a radio.

I agree totally.

IF you're going to do it, go with a Friday night or a Sunday.

If you plan your wedding to coincide (compete) with an LSU game, don't be surprised when I send a 'congratulations' card in the mail because I won't be at your wedding.

Friday weddings seem to be so selfish to me.
Asking all your guests to take off another day if work

Sounds like soon-to-be Mrs. Hangover is quite the catch.

I'm getting married December 10..weekend after the SECCG. My fiancé wanted a fall wedding too. That was our compromise being we'll have guests from multiple different schools

I agree that it sucks when a wedding is during football season. But GD, what does a community put into LSU football season. Unless you live in BR, the answer is literally nothing.
