A shite load of people get married on July 4th weekend, and New Years actually.
In fact I think I've been to a wedding July 4th weekend 3 years in a row

Is it more selfish for 2 people (the bride and groom) to hold 20-100+ people hostage just for them or is it more impolite for those 20-100+ people to not go to the wedding of just 2 people because they have prior engagements?

ETA: Maybe its not clear but I'm of the opinion it's more selfish for the 2 people to expect 20-100+ people to revolve their lives around them for a weekend rather than each individual to tell those 2 people that they already have a prior engagement.

Not even a concern of mine. If it is a big game I will provide a gift card that they will appreciate but will not attend the wedding. My nephew's wedding that I posted about earlier in this thread was about respecting friends and family. Plus, the bride is a huge LSU fan and wouldn't miss the game herself.
