I hope we have 3 weekend pitchers to keep the Demon in his strongest form. Jesus. Hess is a fricking Animal as a closer.

I saw him at CVS awhile back and he is terrifying in person Looks like a madman.. which bodes well for us when he's on the mound

I'm not sure why there is such a rush to get Hess moved back to the bullpen.

As a closer he would throw possibly 2 or 3 innings a weekend.

As a starter, can throw 5, 6, or 7 innings on a weekend. Maybe even more if he's feeling really good. The idea is to have your best pitchers on the mound more. If you have to cover 27 innings a weekend, I'd rather have Hess getting 20% of the load than 7% of the load.

He did very well when he was only a starter last season. He did very well when he was only a reliever last season. His productivity dipped in both roles when he was trying to do both roles. Let him focus on one and he will be fine.

Best case scenario is that a couple of the new pitchers can handle weekend starting spots and Hess can be moved back to the pen.

I’m looking forward to who gets a chance at 2B.

I want to see Slaughter become a power threat at 3B.

Why is that the best case scenario? What if devin fontenot takes off in the closer role?

Do you think, if two of our young pitchers step up, we will have the ability to move Hess back to our closer?

I have a feeling that won't get settled for a while.

I'd really like to see a genuine effort at developing two-way players like storz and cabrera.

With 4 possible sunday starters (labas, peterson, sanders, fontenot) I wonder, and would kind of like to see, if they use a piggyback strategy for the first couple weekends to audition them. Like start sanders, let him go twice through the order, bring in a guy like kodros to finish whatever inning you pull sanders and have peterson come in at the start of a new inning and let him try to finish the game.

Sanders has that electric stuff that could be very valuable late in the game.

If Hess and Gilbert both pan out in the 1-2 I wouldn’t be against letting Sanders having a closers role. However with that being said if he takes the Sunday spot and is able to eat up 5-6 innings every weekend you aboustely take that and figure out the rest later.

I do think Peterson, Labas, and Fontenot will all get the first chances outside of Sanders like you mentioned.

I think Sanders would be a good late inning option as well.

I feel like of the 4 potential sunday guys I mentioned, the maximization would be:

Labas - sunday starter
Sanders - late inning relief
Fontenot - multiple weekend appearance relive
Peterson - long relief to take over if any of our 3 new weekend starters shits the bed early.

Other roles I think are kind of set are PetersEn as late inning reliever, beck as a one or two out guy to finish an inning and let another guy come in fresh, and kodros as a loogy.

This is not a comprehensive list. Others will pitch a lot.

Any word on Beck? Has he progressed any this year? I know he was rotated in some last year as a freshman.

Vietmeier is ready to go after thoracic outlet surgery. Quick bounceback. In the pros, the first season after that surgery didn't go well for most pitchers. So even if he doesn't look good this year, I won't be discouraged. He's got potential.

And storz is throwing.

Eta: all of the news in my lat 2 posts comes from tiger rag.

We have a fair number of returning players but yes, pitching is a real concern. We need some youngsters to step up quickly.

I didn’t know about that till today, huge if he’s able to get back by SEC play.

It was great to hear that Storz is back to bullpen sessions, that’s really really really great news because they didn’t think he would start tossing till March.
