Allen Parish - "Alleged" child rapist is about to become the police chief

As the news broke of the Police Chief candidate’s arrest, town Mayor Mandy Leo Green released a statement on Wednesday evening attempting to alleviate concerns.
“I hear your concerns regarding the upcoming election for Chief of Police,” Green said. She wrote on Facebook that “charges are allegations, not a conviction.”
“The candidate in question has been arrested and charged, but has not been convicted of any crime. Under the law, anyone accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This is an important part of our justice system,” Green added.

A Louisiana police chief candidate who is on bond after being charged with two counts of second-degree rape could still appear on the ballot in the upcoming election.
Christopher Paul was arrested earlier this month after being accused of raping two 13-year-olds.

An arrest warrant was put out and Paul turned himself in on September 8.
Paul was running against Zachary LaCaze, who dropped out of the race last week after being told to choose between his candidacy and his civilian security job at Fort Polk.

UPDATE CONCERNING THE CHIEF OF POLICE ELECTION
I hear your concerns regarding the upcoming election for Chief of Police. I want to clear up how our local government works under Louisiana law and provide immediate transparency regarding our current situation:
1. Charges are allegations, not a conviction. The candidate in question has been arrested and charged, but has not been convicted of any crime. Under the law, anyone accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This is an important part of our justice system.
2. Neither the Mayor's Office nor the Board of Aldermen can alter the ballot.
Because the Chief of Police is currently an independently elected position, the role answers directly to the voters—not to the Mayor or the Board. By law, we have zero authority to disqualify, remove, hire, or fire any candidate running for an elected office. Ballot qualifications are governed strictly by state law.
3. We are taking action to better serve our village and we value your input please join us at our next monthly meeting to ensure your voices are heard. Next Monthly Meeting Details:
Monday, October 12, 2026, at 6:30 PM - Elizabeth Town Hall
Moving forward, my administration will always act in the best interests of our community. Together with the Board of Aldermen, we remain committed to total transparency, maintaining an open-door policy, and navigating these circumstances together with you.
Sincerely,
Mayor Mandy L. Green
(With the Approval of the Board of Aldermen)

With all the inbreeding that goes in in that general vicinity it shouldnt surprise anyone.

This circus aside, did Newsweek just make me read all the way down to the 13th paragraph before giving the name of the town? Or did I miss it?

This is such a weird situation, you have a child predator who has been charged with two felonious sexual offenses and now the pedophile is running unopposed, since LaCaze dropped out of the running. Our system is fricking broken.

I think he was already on the ballot before the accusations.

Is there some way the governor can remove him?

Only in Louisiana.

In Louisiana, if a sheriff dies or a vacancy occurs, the chief criminal deputy automatically assumes the duties of the office until a permanent replacement is chosen by a special election.

Not really. The system is setup so someone can’t be disqualified after being brought up on bogus charges (not saying his are bogus, I’m speaking in generalities).
Literally anyone else could have put their name on the ballot, no one did, so to me it’s a problem with the citizens of the area not wanting anything to do with public service more than anything else.

And qualifying has long ended so no one else can be added to ballot at this point.
