Students and band should get to go. The three years I spent in the band are some of my greatest memories ever.
After the joy we all witnessed last year, I think it’s easier for me to go along with the OP.

While this is a noble idea, the students aren't going to pay the prices LSU is getting from the non-students. If every season ticket holder opted out, the tickets would go on sale, at non-student prices, and be bought up by others. Imagine only 25% capacity and Bama fans being 10,000 of those 25,000 - horrible.
My kids grew up going to games which is partly why my son is a sophomore Tiger and my daughter will be a Tiger next year. We are keeping our tickets (limited though they may be) in case my son doesn't get student allotment tickets. My daughter knows that after seeing every home game and the Championship last year, she will be watching at home with one parent while the other is at the game with our son. And if we feel like we can't make it, we will make sure ours go to other students with my son.
But again, noble thought. And I promise, we bring it for all 4 quarters. We stay til the end - win, lose, or 3.5 hour rain delay. Geaux Tigers!

How about just offer the students 25% of their normal allotment of seats? If 15,000 then there should be 3,750. That should take care of all the students that really care about going to the games.

I'm with you man. Upvotes currently way in your favor!

The students now probably don’t even care about football anymore.
It’s hilarious to listen to old people ramble on this site. Graduated a few years ago, and I can say with complete confidence that you don’t know shite about what the students do and don’t care about

I already did. This all fing sucks.

I think we should have racial, gender and sexual orientation allotments to demonstrate how woke we are as a “New South” institution.

I’m 26. I graduated 3 years ago and still go back for every game and still see some kids who graduated recently that I knew Who were younger and in school when I was an upperclassman. So I’m not an old fart yet who can’t understand the next generation. I’m not really that far removed from it.
My last year in school I started noticing a distinct shift. When I started in 2012 you’d never see anyone wearing gear for other schools either. Maybe other Louisiana school if the kids were from the area. But by the time I graduated you’d see kids every day with Ohio state gear, even other SEC schools, ACC schools. It was bizarre.
Also my freshman year there was a lottery for student tickets because of how high the demand was. There haven’t been any since then and the waiting list for full season tickets also hasn’t been around for at least 5 years now. The stadium also is much slower to fill and much quicker to empty and has been trending that way every year since I’ve started attending games.
Interest is waning at all levels if you’ve been paying attention. We got a bump obviously because of last season but COVID is going to do some serious damage as people move on to other things and don’t necessarily come rushing back to football.

And the school doesn’t owe you shite. Without the students, there is no school.
Not one dime of student money outside of the small amount they pay for subsidized tickets goes to the athletic department. Without season ticket holders there’s no team.
You think LSU is going to sacrifice those dues and ticket costs so more students can go? They need every dollar they can so unless the students are going to be paying the full price they aren’t getting more than the bare minimum LSU thinks they can get away with giving them and not causing a noticeable uproar.

While I agree that students should get first priority, what about alumni and boosters. I would hate the idea of donating money to a program or school and not being able to attend.
For the record, I'm neither alum nor booster. Just my opinion.

Sadly the 25% will mainly be made of old donors who will probably LOVE how quiet it finally is, and that no one is standing to cheer and getting in their way.
Do you know my FIL?

I'm sure I've been fussed at him. I assume he's the type that screams "DOWN IN FRONT" more times a game than "GEAUX TIGERS!"

And let the students have as much of the 25% percent as possible
That's a bad idea. I'm pretty sure piss balloons are against COVID safety guidelines.

Well admins if this has already been hashed out feel free to delete. Just thought I’d bring this up in case some people forgot what it was like to be a student in TS.
Your student experience and ones of today are NOTHING alike.

I mean. It’s their school. They should get first priority over everything LSU related.

If they leave at halftime the stadium will be empty
