last I saw he got a DWI. Yeh I don't know if he has ever gotten over being kicked off the team

No. He hates LSU after getting the boot. It’s on Skip’s Hold the Rope documentary.

Joey Belle was a good player at LSU...but also a pain in the arse later in his career. He tried to kick some bozo fan's arse at the SEC Tournament who allegedly was making racist remarks to him. Given it was a Mississippi St fan in 1987 it probably checks out. He was suspended by Skip for the NCAAT and he never played at LSU again. Since that time I don't think he's ever wanted anything to do with LSU again.

He can’t be trusted to hold the rope

There was no "allegedly" about it. LSU fans there could hear it from the bleachers & it was ugly, ugly, ugly. And some of had been going on for innings. Joey , according to several former players, is the only player from Skip's days who has never come back for a players' reunion.

Don't know, but he was the best offensive player in baseball in the mid-90s. Should have won the MVP but got screwed because he was so surly.

Thanks for reporting the rest of this story.
Belle had huge anger issues, but he was abused by some fans unmercifully. Skip wanted him to ignore these taunts, but that’s easier said than done. And it’s easy to see how Belle thought the team/ school didn’t have his back.
Not defending His lifelong issues, but sometimes things are more nuanced than fans are willing/ able to understand.

Joey Belle at LSU. Skip gave him multiple chances but ended up kicking him off the team. Had a poor attitude.

As I recall, he didn't show up when the Indians inducted him into their Hall of Fame. Unlike some celebrities/athletes who put on a show of being a character, Albert is legitimately a little off.

Also a long history of bad behavior in MLB and criminal behavior. I’m sure the negative feelings go both ways for LSU and Belle.

Criminal behavior? Damn, guess I missed that story. That sucks. He was really good for the Pirates, too. But he always seemed to have drama following him, though it very often genuinely didn't seem to be his own doing (cf., MSU fans).

All I know is Joey was as talented as they come, but the dude was just off in the head, could never control his anger issues or whatever demons controlled him...

Pretty good breakdown on wiki:
Belle played college baseball at Louisiana State University from 1985 to 1987, where he made 1st team All-SEC in 1986 and 1987 and played in 184 games, with 585 at bats, 194 hits, 30 doubles, 49 home runs, 172 runs batted in, 157 runs, a .670 slugging percentage, and a .332 batting average.
In 1986, he played collegiate summer baseball in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Chatham A's and was named a league all-star, then returned to the league in 1987 to play for the Hyannis Mets.[4][5] However, the stress of being a potential high prospect shifted his personality, turning tense after his sophomore year.
In his junior year, he was batting .349 before an incident involving a heckler insulting him with racial epithets at an SEC Tournament game led to a suspension that kept him out of the College World Series.[6]

There was picture from not too long back of him and Todd Walker. Maybe something to do with their HS coach?

Best story was in MLB when he got caught with the corked bat...Umpires took it and put it in their room to send off, but someone paid equipment manager (i believe but could be wrong on exactly who) to crawl in ceiling space and retrieve said bat before the game was over. Bat was never seen again...lol
