This. Someone pointed out on a sports talk show earlier in the season that opened my eyes to this. One problem LSU has is that the QB is no threat to run - at all. This allows coverages to tighten and you wind up with 11 defenders on 10 offensive guys.

Murray and Bray aren't a threat to run either, but they were the best passers in the SEC this year. McCarron isn't a threat to run, but Alabama moved the ball just fine.

We don't NEED a quarterback that is a run threat, we just need one that doesn't stand stock still in the pocket and let the pass rush run him down. A little awareness regarding how to move in the pocket to make defenders miss or get hung up on linemen is really all that's necessary. Mett just showed absolutely no ability to do that this year.

That's funny...... and a no brainer. Bridgewater is about 70% better than Mett IMO. I think both throw well but Bridgewater is more accurate and may even have a stronger arm. The mobility factor is the trump card. LSU would be in Alabama's shoes if Bridgewater were a Tiger. I have no doubt in my mind about that. However, we have what we have for one more season. Let's do the best we can - maybe a BCS bowl if we're lucky. National championships are not going to happen w/o a semi-mobile QB. That's a fact.

Agree or Disagree? Thoughts?
Teddy Bridgewater was the 6th rated DT QB out of HS

Mett was the 11th rated PS QB.

So it is the system/coaches or is it the players?
You kids should make up your minds.

So, lets look back. i dont know a single fan that wanted bridegwater over Mett. they were in the same class and we pretty much put all our eggs into his basket. Minus the fact Mett was a juco, but they would have been in the same recruiting class @ LSU.

Lets not forget we didnt give eli rogers a scholly either. He wanted to go to school with his boy, his boy got a scholly to UL.

looking at it now, yes i would have ratherd bridegwater and yes i would have taken the package deal even though most fans and myself dont like these package deal bullshits.

All I'm saying is, I'd take Charlie Strong and his ability to let his OC/QBC command the offense over CLM's stubborn frame of mind.

Also, Bridgewater seems miles ahead of Mettenberger when it comes to pocket presence and ability to not stand in the pocket like statue.

I wanted Bridgewater. Was as good as advertised when I watched some Miami NW games on TV. Not to mention his athleticism in 7 on 7 camps. And that was at WR. I wanted Mett, also. However, living 45 min from Athens, I was very familiar with his reputation. He was as much of a liability as some other guys. Some of his is overlooked because he's not from the hood. It's not just his off the field issues, I've heard a great deal about his attitude, leadership, etc. Bridgewater was/is a qb, not an athlete that "has to" play qb in HS.

True, but fans called mett the savior. No one else but LSU fans. Still, fans were salivating over getting metts signature and forgot all about teddy. I dont know what else to tell you. You guys wanted mett and we got him ,now you dont wan thim. Every black qb we have recruited has been followed by oh not another JJ. It is very sad, but true. Look at the reaction when bolden transfered. People honestly belived les was going to ruin this team and play bolden over mett because he could run.

well 3 weeks in to the season and fans were already calling for bolden.

Know what this tells me, fans dont know shite!!!!!!!!

As did I, but seriously i also felt we needed mett cus i didnt want to start another rsfr at qb. I still think the coaches would have taken bridegwater over rivers and randle had he chose to come here. but recruiting mett and not giving rogers a scholly turned bridgewater away from us. Or atleast didnt help our chances.

I'm not playing hindsight. I just like having multiple options at qb. Multiple skill sets. Numbers build competition and help depth. It is and will always be a qb driven sport. No matter how great you are in other areas. See: 13-1. Seriously, though. Mett had a reputation here that was simar to former South Carolina running back and phenom- Derrick Watson. Lou Holtz once said, "Derrick with either fill stadiums, or clean them".

At the beginning of the season, had you made this statement, people would have laughed at you...today, the issue is up for debate. Blame the receivers, OL, play calling, etc., but Mett did not look like a confident QB most of the season, and his inability? to run out of the pocket, doomed him more often than not...

did you watch Mett this year

in short, both are horrible passers, but at least defenses had to respect the run with JJ

Mett is way ahead of JJ as a passer, not sure how anyone who watched the past two seasons and this season could even say otherwise.. Both had shitty pocket presence.

Did you forget LSU's passing stats in 2010??

Mett over threw probably 25-30 long balls this year. 15-20 of those, the wr was 2+ yards behind the DB. That isn't coaching, that is talent. I think Mett only connected on 4-5 deep passes this year. Some of those were miraculous catches. Mett isn't a leader nor an NFL QB.

J Lee was money on the deep ball last year.

I think Metts head is in the bars thinking about the girls. He is light years better at home though!

Frankly there are a whole lot of quarterbacks that are better than Mett unfortunately.
