Tennessee throttled us on our home field and has a better record. Their loss is to the #1 team in the country, our other loss is to a nothing team. They’re not going to reinvent the process to make the Rant happy. We’ll need some help to get in.

First time following late season college football? playoff committees are chock full of idiots that only get the selection and/or seed rankings right if it's obvious like in 2019. This year will be bonkers if some 2007 type shite goes down.

No team has ever lost a season opener and gone on to the playoff. Because most season openers are against teams like FSU and when you lose to teams like that you’re in big trouble.

Starting to agree.

It really boils down to, A) does the committee value a team improving as the season goes on (I.e. are they playing their best football at the time of selection) and B) the reputation of the SEC being the best conf for 2 decades.

Winning the SEC means more than winning the big 10 or pac12. Everybody knows it.

It’s going to be interesting if LSU wins out.

ETA: I think the committee’s worst nightmare is LSU winning out.

I agree.

And if Ole Miss finishes strong, we would have beaten three top 10 teams. That's a big deal.

I would believe OSU would go to Phoenix. Tons of Buckeye fans out there.

It’s pretty cut and dry…. I don’t see the confusion people are having with it. Sec champ, 3 wins over top 10 teams including # 1 uga.

Tennessee will have 1 loss against the #1 team, on the road, and a blowout win at LSU.

...and would be the 3rd place team in their conference behind SEC Champion LSU and runner-up Georgia.

No team had ever been to the BCS CG with two losses, either, before 2007. And LSU lost late in that season. That it hasn’t been done, does not the mean it won’t or can’t be done. There is no rule against a two loss team in the CFP.. No two loss team has been in the position LSU will be in if, a big if, LSU wins out. No two loss team ranked no. 6 has beaten a no. 1 ranked team in a conference championship before either in the CFP era. It’s no guarantee that LSU gets in even winning out, but the fact that no two loss team has been in the CFP isn’t the single controlling factor.

In this scenario LSU would have 7 straight wins, 3 of them over top 10 teams (including #1). LSU would essentially be the hottest team on the country and SEC champion to boot. For LSU to not get would be to punish them for success.

What’s the purpose of a committee if all we are looking at is wins/losses? Seven straight wins, who they beat, and being conference champs will matter. If this plays out, LSU gets in.

ETA : For those who say we don’t get in, are we implying that if LSU wins out, beats GA, they remain at #6? Has any top 10 team who’s beaten #1 ever not moved up?

When you lose matters. And it should. The grind of the season makes some teams fall later in the year. Also some teams may get stronger as the season goes on.

Best argument I have heard thus far but still need to win the next three games

Yeah. I took the easy way on SOS and canceled them out + 1/-1 not wanting to debate Vol fire breathers about relative SOS, though I think we have the better case.

Probably should be + 3 for beating Georgia. +2 for beating them and + 1 for the SOS bump.

Point being, if the Tigers win out they should make the playoffs irrespective of the loss to Tennessee. And certainly not Tennessee over LSU.

Chicken, this is the definitive statement and the correct answer. You should have the moderators either delete all speculative SEC championship threads and or anchor them immediately when they pop up. We’re going to see 99 threads about this between now and December 3.
