Pretty much this, We are going to rely a lot on Stewart and Wright to create offense in the OOC and early sec play without Cook. And while I think they can do that, I think they are much better at being the benefactors instead of the creators but we will see.

Tyrell Ward is prob my favorite player on team. He is just sneaky-active and i love his engagement. He is good enough offensively to potentially lead the team in ppg.

Agree completely, he his always hunting his spots when he doesn't have the ball which is huge because I think he can knockdown shots. I think we may eventually see him move into the starting lineup and have Williams come off the bench.

That would be a step up from last year.

I’d be happy with that.

Miss Valley won 5 games last year
I do think LSU outside shooting is much improved and should keep them in a lot of games. Losing Mwani right around start of conference play really hurt last year- he's the best defender LSU has.

Watching last night, rebounding has to improve and Miss Valley drove into the paint way too easy. A competent team would have had Baker in foul trouble if LSU allows that much penetration in the paint and John Brady made that comment during game and postgame.

I wish LSU had Cook because Williams looks good for a freshman but like any young player he's gonna struggle at times against top backcourts in the SEC.

Jalen Reed looks the part but did not show a lot last night however has tremendous up side. Reed has the highest ceiling on the team, he just needs to grow into his role

Reed looked like exactly the same player he was last year. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm still waiting on a sign of improvement

I think he's SLIGHTLY improved his handle, and a little bit of a better rebounder. He still lacks touch around the rim. I told my friend during the game that everything looks good up to the point he attempts a shot.

Disappointing considering how much potential he has. I do think MM should limit his PT and give it to other forwards more, but I doubt it considering he favors Reed heavily.

Agreed. I think a decent amount of his minutes will end up going to Fountain considering he's probably the best rebounder on the roster

Fountain was arguably the best player on the team coming into this year. I don't like seeing him buried in the rotation. He barely played, but I liked seeing him drop the ball more and play more like a forward. Mind boggling how MM tried making him a C at the start of last year when he was a faceup four at MSU

was thinking the same thing.

but the worst LSU player would be a star on the team from last night....let's see what the next few months bring.

I think he's still knocking off the rust from being out with the bubble guts. McMahon probably didn't want to play him much since he didnt have to. Im sure he knows that Fountain is one of the best players on the team.

Baker, Wright, and Ward could turn into a solid 3 folks. I think the key is Williams needs to develop and be steady. We have a lot of big, athletic guys this year. Baker has nice low post moves, seems to have a high BB IQ and shoots well for a big. Collins and Chest are athletic bigs. I sure hope Reed can put it all together this year and consistently gives us 10 and 6. Fountain is not as athletic and doesn't have the highest ceiling but he's a good guy to have.

It seemed like in the Dale Brown era that Louisiana always had plenty of serviceable PGs. It sure would be nice to have some play-making walk-on PG come out of nowhere, just for depth.

Good to have Wilkinson back. He's a good defender and quality depth.

I'm always optimistic at this time of year. We have better athleticism and potential with this team than last year's team.

Even in the best of times of the last 25 years coverage and interest in LSU hoops is hard to come by. I can tell you - a die-hard LSU hoops fan I've lived it.

So when you have a season like last season it becomes even that much harder.

So Jalen Cook isn't eligible at all for this year, correct?

If that's the case, I would feel a lot better about this team if he was eligible. Now I'm not sure.

I was hoping someone could determine whether he will be able to graduate by December so that he could play as a graduate.

As of now, yes.

LSU is appealing the decision by presenting "new information" in hopes of taking the same approach taken by the UNC WR earlier this year. I suspect it isn't going to work.

I don't know if LSU is doing this or not, but I think the better workaround is if Cook could graduate in December. That way LSU could use the same logic the NCAA used in granting eligibility to a Wright St. 2x transfer who, when he transfer had yet to graduate, but later graduated over the summer.

This is his 4th year of college. It's not THAT uncommon to see people graduated in 3.5 years. According to his LSU bio, he's majoring in (essentially) General Studies. I don't mean to come across as elitist, but that's not known as a particularly rigorous major that would basically require 4 to 5 years in undergrad to earn your degree.

LSU will play 9 games before Finals end. If he could graduate, perhaps you could have him available for the start of SEC play. It's better than nothing!

Honestly there is a silver lining to Cook not playing this year. McMahon says he's still practicing with the team. If he can't play, obviously it's very unfortunate, but think about it as an extra year he gets to develop. He will also make the players in the program better on the defensive end from having to play against him in practice.

Although it is a negative for our team, it's not a complete negative.

Looks like we have a strong shot at finishing 7th in the SEC this year, which is middle of the pack.

We are sitting at 8th in the SEC right now with MSU ahead of us at 7 and we play MSU next game in the PMAC.

After the next game, MSU has Kentucky, Auburn, Texas A&M, and South Carolina.

After MSU, LSU has Georgia, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and Missouri.

I like our chances of finishing 7th in the SEC. Finishing 6 or 5 would be difficult. We would have to pass Kentucky and/or Florida.
