Only after watching.
He doesn't seem to be a great technical coach.
Besides lsu, Brad Davis has never been at a school longer than 2 year if I'm not mistaken.

This board hated Bard Davis until he became interim head coach when O was fired. Then Davis became “one of us” and we forgot how shitty his offensive lines were.

Back off Satan. If Pittman does decide to coach OL again(doubtful) he's ours.

I am convinced, brad davis needs to be let go. OL Cant block, no discipline, trips over their own feet, that was pathetic to watch. SLU's Number 40 was getting through unblocked on almost every possession
This kind of sums up our fanbase reaction to the problem without a big picture view. I too am frustrated with many of our short comings in the run game especially short yardage situations. Most everybody at LSU competitive level should be able to convert 3rd and 2 80% of the time.
However, big picture says we are averaging 3.7 ypc. If we improve that by 6 ft to 5.7 ypc we are in really good company. So my point is our issues are situational which to me is likely a systemic issue like running a DT offense with a Pro style QB.
Square peg, round hole. That to me gets up to BK and JS responsibility rather than BDavis.

We got some of the highest rated passs blockers in the sec. We need to stop trying to be something we aint. We are constantly killing drives trying to run the football. We have to pass to set up the run. Is what it is.
At least in the short term, have to agree.
I’m no expert, but seems like trying to make something that you do worse than 90% of CFB into your bread and butter would not be a winning strategy.

But I know I can watch LSU play football and I'm on season 2 of being able to stand with strangers and make jokes about knowing that inside zone is the next running play and then it happens.
Confirmation bias. You remember the times you're right and forget the times you're wrong.

Right. It’s the scheme with a QB that is not a threat to run. Defenses don’t respect Nuss’ feet. In this scheme there will always be an unblocked defender that is supposed to care about the QB run. But they ignore Nuss and defenses have one extra defender that’s usually unblocked to help stop the run. This offense is designed for a true dual threat. Nuss is not a dual threat.
This is such a dumb and tired take.
And it's also completely false.

quote:in all of the criticism about Sloan, this is being overlooked. Sloan is calling the same plays that are being run in the pros and by the best college teams. And there have been a few instances where he was praised for doing something clever.
Well the scheme is the same as 99% of college football that don't run some form of triple option
As far as the oline itself, they improved against slu. The only thing that consistently tripped them up was stunts on the right side and there are plenty of videos of pro lines getting beat by that. Even so, pass pro was still solid. Zone blocking/split zone was fine. The backs need to follow the blockers better.
LSU doesn't need to rack up 200 on the ground every week. Just play complimentary football. No team is perfect or dominant this year

quote:this is just not helpful. What specific plays is Sloan not running that he should be and what specific plays are not working and who's fault is it for those specific plays?
Its the offensive design(Brian kelly or Joe sloan) it's not Brad Davis fault

Nothing new there even last year with 4 pros..a ton of false starts, bad scheme and bad run block. What has changed?
Time for Brad to go…be a recruiter not a coach.

They have absolutely no clue what they are talking about, but they want to feel like they do, so they find somebody who says what they are saying and latch on to them

That’s woes that money and coaching should be fixing…we have bought players, pay them and coaches a lot of money for under performing

I'm pretty confident in saying Josh Pate has never stepped foot in Tiger Stadium
he goes to at least one LSU home game per year and he visits baton rouge and LSU in the summers
my issue with the LSU OL is they are incredibly sloppy and inconsistent. They will run a play or a protection and block perfectly, they will run it again later and it looks like it is the first time they have ever tried it
inconsistency is from talent and execution and coaching
you have the talent to execute
sometimes you do execute
sometimes you do not
that is all derived from the attitudes of the players and being fed detail oriented coaching

quote:absolutely. They've improved and people who watch breakdowns can see that
the line is doing pretty well in parts
quote:agree. Again, stunts are tough when executed correctly. They beat even pro lines. I'm glad slu exposed that because it's about the last thing left that is consistently beating the right side. Now lsu knows that and has all week to drill that instead of finding out in Oxford after OM is winning by 15 points.
needs to get better...especially handling pass rush stunts

We run the ball 100/100 times when we motion anyone into the box.
This goes into last year too.
it's not a bad idea since it gives you an easier block for WR's on paper.
The problem is there are two people in the backfield and only 1 is a threat to run the ball.
I don’t agree with this at all. I just watched every offensive play from the Florida game. We motioned someone into the box 3 times - 2 runs and 1 pass. So first off it’s not 100% of the time.
Second, even when it is a run it’s not a guarantee that it goes to the RB. In fact most of our work motioning WRs into to the box has been built around the threat of a counter or jet sweep to Thomas.
Third, there have been a bunch of plays where Thomas has come across in jet motion, slowed down as he’s about to stop in the box on a run play, then sped up to a full sprint out wide right before the ball was snapped. Some of these have been quick screens to Thomas, some have been inside runs to the RB, and some have been other passing concepts. Again, the point is to get the defense to key on Thomas’ jet motion.
The offensive playcalling hasn’t been nearly as predictable as people keep saying. That doesn’t mean it’s been fantastic or anything - results ultimately speak for themselves - but I think the issues are a lot more nuanced/complicated than simply saying “it’s too predictable.”

the LSU running game under Sloan has been terrible
Do I want it to be better? Absolutely. But I can also acknowledge there is no dominant team now, that has all phases of the game firing on all cylinders. It's just a new era of football.

I am not there yet. But the consistently getting schooled on stunts is making me more concerned. I have not lost faith in Brad Davis as a Coach but we do need to start to see some improvement. Otherwise a move will have to be made.

I’d like to think we’re on the right track with the 3 studs we signed in 2025
That's true, but:
In '25 we signed 4 OL, all 4* or better.
In '24 we signed 3 OL, one 3* and two 5*'s.
In '23 we signed 4 OL, one 3*, two 4* and one 5*.
That's not including transfer portal signees.
I don't understand why we're always having to wait until next year for our OL class to develop into a good OL.
