I'll own up to hoping he would shoot the pullup. It is not because I do not like him - I think he is a great player who has improved tremendously this year.

HE PLAYED GREAT TONIGHT!! THANK YOU, ERIC GAINES!!

Gaines is always going to make some great plays and some not so good. He is still a project in the making and will be much better next year. He just needs to learn not to let his legs go faster than his brain and he will be a great point guard. He needs more shot clock awareness, stop being careless with the ball and realize that sometimes we need him to slow down and play more deliberate. Also spends too much time dribbling and holding the ball rather than passing. But he has more speed, quickness and jumping ability than almost any other LSU player I can remember since Chris Jackson.

Murray is the best defender on this team. He will guard about every position including bigs. Evidence of his value is the Auburn game and when he fouled out against Kentucky. Look at what happened.

Gaines is an excellent defender also.

Because this board is full of tards. He's the best on ball guard defender at LSU since Temple.

That is simply untrue. His own teammate Murray is a better defender. Just look at Auburn and Kentucky. Gaines gets lost on defense at times because he overplays.

What an insufferable jackass you are. Instead of eating your crow or at least shutting up you’re still trying to find ways to bash Gaines, usually with lies. You’re a joke

Most of us aren’t giving him hell..we understand what he brings to the table. It’s the simple minded ignorant minority that are overly negative about Gaines.

He played great down the stretch tonight.

Great defender.
Good free throw shooter.

Has room to improve on the offensive end.

He adjusted his game for the team incredibly tonight. Walked the ball up, set up the offense, fed his teammates, smart defense, mostly stayed out of foul trouble.

Once Pinson is back and Gaines is back to his normal minutes we can afford to have him play like a crazed banshee again

The reason LSU is elite is because we have a lot of great defenders. Wade was asked after Kentucky what he did when Kentucky started the 2nd half hitting 3 straight 3's. His response "Put in Eric Gaines"

Murray is awesome. Murray is elite with switching. But Eric Gaines takes these chances, has this 6th sense. Teams fear him, they are aware of him. He's in their minds. He creates absolute chaos for teams. Murray is the defender that does his role, locks his guy down, allows Gaines to be the wildcard. Murray is great, but Gaines does something few teams in college basketball have

THIS IS A GOOD PROBLEM TO HAVE. It is not a trash of Gaines. frick
For the record one player played two minutes more than the other had 2 more steals and half the turnovers and the same amount of assists. But you know every fricking thing.
Player 1 - O Steals; 2 assists; 4 turnovers.
Player 2 a 2 steals, 2 assists, 2 turnovers
Get out of here with your bullshite. I put your sorry arse in your place in the other thread. For everyone who didn’t see that thread, this dumbass was arguing that Gaines didn’t turn the ball over more than Pinson per possession until someone threw up % of time that Gaines plays the 2 and Pinson plays the one.
As far you and your attack in this thread, I’m not trashing Gaines at all. I stated that Murray is a better defender because in my opinion and observations all season when LSU has been without him other teams have scored more as evidenced being Auburn and Kentucky when Murray fouled out.
The LSU defense is worse with Pinson and Gaines than with the Pinson/ Murray combo. Murray can guard MORE players than Gaines because of his size which makes him a better overall defender in this defense. It isn’t even an argument.

If Gaines was better than Murray, he would be starting. It is simple. Murray averages the most minutes on this team for a reason. Damn.

With some players you have to take the good with the bad… and with Gaines I’m more than willing to.

Does everything have to be one extreme or the other on here? As a whole, he is definitely not elite, but also not completely worthless as some would suggest.

He's exceptional at ball handling,

He loses the ball too much to say this. He does make some flashy moves, but I think that’s more about quickness than ball handling.

You don’t meet the definition of a fan. A fan is supposed to be for their team no matter what. You’re objective(but not really because overwhelming negative no matter what). I guess it’s two sides of the same coin but damn. Let us be fans and have fun and shut the frick up. Also as smart as you think you are, you realize that kind of negativity hurts us overall, right?

Do you wanna bring up Garrett Temples offensive stats? Especially his freshman and sophomore years?

I’d say on the whole Garrett temple was a pretty elite college basketball player. As a rule for perimeter players in basketball, their offense is much more important than their defense. But guys like Temple and Gaines are exceptions that prove the rule.
