Even the fricking NFL has a salary cap to at least have a semblance of league parity.

The bidding war for college players will make the coaching bidding war seem like a game of thumb wrestling.

Agreed. If the schools and the players can’t figure out and agree to a sustainable business model, this is going to end badly for everyone. The revenue will dry up quickly once the perception of college football becomes that it is nothing more than a professional minor league. Look at the minor leagues in other sports. Those revenues and salaries pale in comparison to what we are seeing now. It’s just not sustainable.

The players absolutely deserve a more equitable share of the revenue. They absolutely deserve greater freedom of movement amongst schools than what existed prior to the transfer portal and one-time free transfer rule. They should have the freedom to opt out when circumstances warrant. The problem is that current system is an out of control free for all. It becomes the prisoner’s dilemma. For the individual, the best choice is to look out for themselves through NIL, free transfers, and opt outs, but things would work out better for everyone in the long run if everyone chose loyalty, stability and commitment instead. College football better figure out quickly how to reward staying in place, playing bowl games, and showing true pride in the uniform.

The rule definitely needs to be you can replace transfer players with transfer players. Allowing schools to take 7 more high schoolers just pushes out weaker players who will lose their scholarships.

Trickle down and out

This was actually a lawsuit that allowed the NIL. Ncaa had no say in it. And like everything else the government gets involved in, they make it worse.

^^^this though. I swear, half our fanbase is the absolute worst. Next time you negatigers try to call a transfer player a “quitter”, remember that half of our fanbase quits on the team every single day on this board. It’s the delusion for me…

Just acknowledge that they are revenue generating entertainment.

Do you think the “NFL TALENT” players were anything else?

Perhaps, the fact that these players are able to provide for their families—if needed—they may actually wait before making the jump to the NFL.

Most JRs making the jump do so because they are after the money—money they never had and perhaps their family never had. With NIL providing to financial stability, maybe a JR who might. Increase his draft stick by waiting a year may actually wait.

Not everything is doom gloom—and stop pretending that your concern is about these players and their needs. It appears your concern is over a perceived decline in your entertainment value.

What if you put a limit on # of transfers a team can bring in? Even if more guys transfer out.
Say max number is 3-5
Then you are allowed to sign more high school recruits. This is a win win for high school kids too.

While that is true, it was the NCAA’s failure to find a reasonable compromise on revenue sharing with players that led to the lawsuit that produced the ruling that let the NIL genie out of the bag. The NCAA is also responsible for not being prepared to adequately regulate NILs and letting loose this out of control free-for-all.

Yeah but again, how is money guaranteed to any player that signs with x school NIL money?

When the players Name imagine and likeness don’t matter how is it NIL?

The answer is that’s it’s clearly not, but the NCAA won’t say anything about it.

Yes you could see this coming a mile away. Was intended for players to be able to capitalize on their name, but instantly became a way to pay players to come to a certain school. The new transfer rules are perfect timing along with the NIL to make it a free for all mess.

Can we boo them now when they suck?
Absolutely. With higher pay comes more room for criticism and more pressure. If players opt out, part of their NIL should be stripped. Start treating them like employees.

The larger NIL deals should require two-three years.

I can’t even imagine some of the basketball deals we are going to see in the future. Think if there was another Shaq coming out of HS. How much NIL $$ do you think schools would be throwing at him?

I bet smaller schools who can’t compete in football are going to concentrate those dollars in BB, making for a ludicrous NIL/recruiting competition.

While I laud Mckernan for his efforts, it’s going to take an absurd amount of money to be one of these “elites”. I know LSU has some well heeled alumni but We are talking about TENS of millions of dollars here that Texas schools have. It seems like a house of cards too. You invest all this money and then the coach and team of paid players don’t win? Winter will surely come.

This is one case where the government really should step in.

The original NIL lawsuit didn't ask for the kind of compensation amounts that some guys are receiving. But the NCAA -- to no surprise -- kicked the can up to Washington rather than adopt a creative NIL plan of its own. The NCAA begged Congress to formulate a way that players could be compensated.

When Congress deferred, schools were left to make up the rules as they went along.

Barring any legislation, the problem likely will only be remedied by free market forces. Do you think the guy who gave Spencer Rattler $200K feels he got his money's worth?

"Sponsors" are going to get burned, and there probably will be some sort of market correction. But it won't happen right away, unless Congress sets some sort of guidelines and the universities impose their own protocols.

That’s revenues not profit. They’ll have to reduce spending on other items in their budgets then (coaching, equipment, buildings, recruiting expenses, etc.). That’s suicide…
