Dinardo probably deserves more credit for taking the program out of the Hallman doldrums.

So true. Growing up I remember the best players in the state going to Notre Dame, Michigan, etc. Anywhere but LSU. Then all of the sudden in the late 90s LSU started keeping some of the best players in the state. There was a buzz around the program and people were excited about LSU football again.

Great game, great night. Two comments:

This night, the 97 Florida game, and the 95 Indy Bowl will forever be in my Top 10 LSU games attended. It was time for Dinardo to leave when he did but I'm all about celebrating the good, same with the Miles tenure here too.

Was there as student which makes me feel old!

I've gotten about 10 different answers to where exactly "bring back the magic" came from.

Wasn't it just a team or fan motto for the season that year? Kinda like block put the noise or one team one heartbeat

It was literally the cover of the Advocate sports section the next day after beating Auburn

Dinardo was a freshman and did not make the trip (he may have been injured).

Back then on most teams, freshmen didn't travel - especially long range travel like South Bend to BR.

LSU PR, after the press conference, came up with the idea of going back to the white jersey's at home and linked that to Dinardo's qoute about "Bringing back the magic."

I think the push for the "H" goalposts started then - at that point, I think all we had retained was marking the "5" yard line markers from the old days.

For any flaw or dislike one might have for any of these four gentlemen, just know that any of them will be able to outcoach Curley Hallman (at his prime), years and years after they've died. Just FYI.

Meh. It was humid, but a night game (box score says it was 91 degrees at kickoff).

That day game against Mississippi State is pretty memorable for being brutally, unwaveringly hot. I can't recall the year.

He was a freshman in 1971, the last year where freshman were inelgible for varsity play.

Actually his downfall was more his unwillingness to fire Tepper. Had he, Dinardo probably would not have been fired.

Jaimie Howard had a good game without the goal line int.

We got to beat Nix and Damien Craig at the same time.

The crowd reaction showed that the Magic WAS Back.

Don't tell my wife that happened on this day 25 years ago. We met that night after the game so she will be looking for a gift.

Those were brought back for the centennial game in 93 against Tulane. They also petitioned to wear white in that game but were denied by the NCAA.

On the surface, this shouldn’t have been too difficult.

Faulk was the cherry on top and the headliner but his ability to pull top kids from all the areas we were previously struggling in, Nola, Monroe, Texas was huge for us. Everyone credits Saban with closing off the state but Dinardo’s first year statewide summer tour, where he visited almost every high school program, really started the ball rolling.

It was the start of my junior year of LSU. This is the only tailgate/game that I was completely sober ever. Tailgated all day by the Indian Mounds across from the Gym Armory now Cox Athlete Center or some bullshite. Dinardo was bringing back the magic and I wanted to remember everything.
