Yeah, DiNardo went on a "Bring Back the Magic" speaking tour in Louisiana with fans and that was his line with Louisiana recruits too. I believe he said he was familiar with the mystique of Tiger Stadium on Saturday nights, Billy Cannon, etc., when he was younger and he said he wanted to bring that excitement back.
Although he squandered it by being too stubborn, he definitely brought the magic back with the 95 Auburn and 97 UF wins (along with the bowl games and wins). That was a special moment in time because the fan base was so hungry for success.

It was Dinardo. Here's a pretty good article.
Bring Back the Magic - What If I Told You LSU Used to be Terrible
Also from that article.

LSU's program was at such a point that students camped out to buy tickets to the Independence Bowl (where LSU would beat a Spary team coached by Nick Saban). Yes, we were so starved for a winner that we slept outside in order to buy tickets to a meaningless game in Shreveport.

Speaking of in state recruiting improvement, DiNardo recruited the 4 cornerstones to “bring back the magic”...1) Kevin Faulk (RB) with electric shake and bake 2) Eddie Kennison (WR) with electric speed, 3) Booger McFarland (DT) an interior force on D, and 4) now I’m forgetting the name of the crazy athletic OL man who was inducted into the HOF with the Pittsburgh Steelers (Having a SR moment).

Alen Faneca.
ETA: I think Faneca started at LSU before Dinardo was hired.

The quality of this video was better before You Tube sold out to Google. You Tube used to have a Video Manager feature that had a Video Enhancement part that worked beautifully. When Google took over You Tube, not only was this feature removed but the quality of the videos went back to their original form for some reason.

Kennison and Faneca were Curley recruits

I can remember how the air smelled in the stadium. Last game I attended with my father.

Yep. You can go to the www.lsusports.com website and the signings page for football. It goes all the way back to at least the 80’s.
BTW, he also started the tradition of the “signing day bash.”

I moved to Baton Rouge and became a cop that year. I worked the games, usually around the student section. The next year, I got season tickets and had them until I moved from BR. I even went to the signing day bashes.
Basically went from being a fan to a groupie.

I've gotten about 10 different answers to where exactly "bring back the magic" came from.
I know the answer because I asked Dinardo myself a few years ago when he came over and hung out one night in Destin.

Getting Faulk to stay home changed everything. FSU had already come into Baton Rouge to get Warrick Dunn, then did it again with Travis Minor. I want to say Nebraska was another one setting up camp here. Gerry at least stopped the bleeding.

This is part of the answer.
It goes back to 1971 when Notre Dame in Tiger Stadium. Dinardo was a freshman and did not make the trip (he may have been injured). When the team got back from Baton Rouge all they could talk about was the atmosphere at Tiger Stadium.
In his introductory press conference talked about that and said, "We need to 'Bring Back the Magic."
LSU PR, after the press conference, came up with the idea of going back to the white jersey's at home and linked that to Dinardo's qoute about "Bringing back the magic."
it worked.

Tennessee used to come down to Louisiana in those days and pillage us in recruiting also.

Can you believe this game wasn’t televised, not even regionally?
TigerVision didn’t even carry it. If you lived in Alabama, you could order the game on a pay-per-view basis via the Auburn Network.
The guy who did the play-by-play on the Auburn Network telecast is now the voice of the Auburn Radio Network.
The game only took 2.5 hours.
