Yeah because of one reason, Moore.

Weston Davis would play on the right side at RT if we don’t add another tackle. Tyree Adams is clearly the guy on the roster right now that the coaches think will replace Campbell at LT. Mubenga played better every game he was in so there’s room for him to get better but he’s going to have to beat out two freshmen that all signs are they are ready to play just about immediately. I wouldn’t be shocked if we started the year with Mubenga and Chester at the guard spots and Curne or Thomas take one of their spot.. Curne in particular is a kid I think could be a 3 year starter at guard.

If Nuss can develop any ‘escapability’, we will be dangerous.

There is zero actual reason or justification for your feeling this way other than Hope. I hope you are right.

Fact is - other than the two years Jayden and Joey B made them look better than they were our OL play has been pretty mediocre for years. That was on area - taken and coaching - I was hoping Brad Davis would be an upgrade. That’s hasn’t occurred yet, other than draft pick status. Under Davis the unit has played far under the sum of its parts.

Replacing both tackles in a pass heavy offense concerns me. Hopefully we have more balance with a better stable of backs.

Emory Jones wasn’t great this year.

I think Weston Davis is RT…

With better playcalling, a better running game, and better WRs, I think the passing game will better than many think.

Based on prior results, Brad Davis is good at recruiting but has yet to really develop anybody.
This is the year he has to mold the group of recuits/transfers into a cohesive unit and coach them up.
Wish him the best of luck will be easy to see how they do both on run blocking and pass pro.

Losing Dellinger really cost us this past season, but it means Mubenga has some quality snaps under his belt now. He improved a lot. Moore is a major upgrade at center too and Chester can go back to his natural position. Things are looking up

We are losing a first rounder and probably another 2nd rounder in Jones. We are losing a solid offensive guard in Dellinger. If Brad Davis couldn’t coach up these guys what will he do with less talent?

Think back to the beginning of the 22 season when we settled on the core of this year’s OL- 2 true freshman, 1 portal guy, an undersized Center who had hardly played before, and 1 returning starter. And really only 2 capable, SEC-level guys (Shorts and Martinez) on the bench behind them.

We all know last year’s OL did not end up like we expected. If anything, they regressed. But let’s also not act like Davis didn’t take them a long way from a very shaky beginning to where they topped out. If anything, Davis has proven he’s good at developing young, inexperienced OLs into solid groups that can compete in the SEC. We will need that again next year.

Hell, on run plays where he only has to block the man in front of him, he routinely gets blown up.

Center is the toughest role on the OL for multiple reasons. One is that you have to immediately get leverage and hit after the snap when the DT opposite your has an inherent time advantage to the point of attack. Now do that at 6’ 5” or 6”, when it becomes even harder to get leverage after snapping. There is a reason Centers are rarely that tall. If they are, then it’s a Pocic situation where they are very experienced and use that to offset any physical disadvantages.

Chester was a redshirt freshman. Let’s just see what he can do when all he has to do is hit someone after the snap. His height was always going to work against him as a Center, but it’s ideal for a Guard. And If he still doesn’t cut it, someone else will take the job.

Ah, good. The deranged Offensive Line Stalker is here, and as ignorant and incoherent as ever. We would have needed a welfare check on his old arse if he didn’t eventually show up in this thread.

Mubenga got better every game he played. Supposedly Chester is better suited at guard. You don't write off freshman especially on the line. They cam get physically stronger and better. Hopefully hat will be the case.

He was horrific his first game and was barely serviceable his last. I hope he continues to develop but he was still a liability against OU. There was a three play stretch where he whiffed on his block each play. If we are counting on his as a starter without trying to upgrade it’s an issue. If he happens to continue developing and beats out another starter level player, fine.

This time last year, many Ranters thought we were the best Oline in the country. Give them time to turn on this group.

I'd go better than pretty good - especially for a true freshman - he will be a great leader for the rb room

So Adams, Davis etc can’t play left tackle?
What premium left tackle is easily available out there?
