I just need it stated in this thread that anyone who thinks Tre Morgan wasoverrated at first base or should be moved to any other position to please put that in their sig like to signal their complete and utter ignorance when it comes to knowing anything so I can disregard all their posts from the jump. TIA

Any thoughts of that nature are just plain stupid.

It's possible to believe that Morgan is a great 1st baseman and that the overall team could improve if he played another position, at least part time.

It's also possible to believe that Morgan is a great first baseman, and him playing another position would be beneficial to his future pro career. Again, even if it's just part time.

I thought he was awesome. But I think he should move to the OF to open up 1B for another hitter

Why move him and not the other position player? Doesn’t make any sense to me to move our best bat out of his natural and best position to put in another bat and take a step back in that defensive position

He played great. He wasn't stretching properly at the beginning of the season, and still took some bad angles every so often late. His approach is very unorthodox, so it looks so incredible when it could really just be a routine pitch and catch. He did all of the same things in high school - to the point that it was a problem at times because he wasn't as coordinated as he is now. He played some OF in high school.

Feel free to disregard all of my posts.

It wasn’t directed at you. But all this praise from everyone for being an incredible first basemen, national and local? That has to stand for something.

I’ve read a lot of your posts, absolutely respect your opinion on baseball

Because he is a freak athlete & could handle it.

And he doesn’t have a pro future at 1B. He’s an OF all the way. So it would be beneficial on both accounts

Also, if the infield defense improves, the step down at 1B won't be an issue.

The original purpose of putting Morgan at 1B was to try and put the best 9 on the field with Dugas/Gio/Crews in the OF and Beloso DHing. It was apparent that his athleticism impressed PM at first and he thought that was a better combo. I’m curious how much better Beloso would have hit had he been on the field playing. DH isn’t as easy as people think. But then you’d be DHing Dugas with Morgan in LF. Would have been an interesting lineup to see.

I'm bout to go force myself on Salma Hayek because I got people in here defending taking Morgan off 1B and it's obvs the world is ending tomorrow.

He is incredible at first base. But he's got the potential to be incredible no matter where he is. And even if he starts a game in the outfield, there is nothing that says he can't move to first later in the game. Positional versatility would only help.

DH'ing and pinch hitting are really tough - essentially the same concept in that you're coming up cold and not in the flow of the game. With pinch hitting, you at least get that short adrenaline burst.

Morgan could be your best 1B and best OF. Teams often put the best athletes up the middle. Stevenson probably could have played a better 1B than Scivicque but that doesn’t mean that’s the best place for him or for the team. So downgrading at 1B so that you can upgrade the OF is a move that makes sense especially if Gio is gone.

It makes me wonder if the DH spot should be more rotational with everyday players coming off the field for a day to DH and slip in someone else to get reps on defense.

The only guy on last year's roster that showed any propensity toward pinch hitting (and thereby potential at DH) was Travinski, early in the season. We don't know how it would have held up throughout the rest of the season.

He will prob end up staying at 1B another year, and I'm fine with that.

Get rid of the DH imo.
