The 2007 NC team was all Hester and Flynn. Lots of leadership there.

Defensively we gave up 50 points to Arkansas. Granted that was a great Arkansas team with McFadden and Felix Jones. Arkansas finished 8-5 (4-4).

We gave up 43 to Kentucky in Lexington when we were #1 team in the country. That was also a good Kentucky team that finished 8-5 (3-5).

We were 10 points down vs. Florida and to Alabama ( That was Nick Saban's first year and they lost to UL Monroe).

The reason why Miles went for 5 4th downs against Florida in the last drive that lasted 8 min or so was because he had lost confidence in the defenses ability to stop Florida. He realized that the best way to stop Florida was to keep Tim Tebow off the field.

That defense was regressing in 2007. In 2008 when Mallory and Peveto took the flack but Bo Pelini should share some of the blame. Offense carried that team.

Contrast the with the other three great teams 2003 and 2011 were monster defenses. The only problem 2011 had was a lack of leadership in the QB position and on the side lines.

The 2019 team was Joe Burrow's team, but we had a fairly good defense too. We stopped Oklahoma and Clemson dead in their tracks and managed to just do enough to keep Alabama from beating us.

Praying we do not see Bo Pelini in the sidelines in Tiger Stadium

I would give it to Corey Raymond...give the man a chance...he has been here long....

Both these games were OT games so by this logic Aranda gave up 74 to A&M.

I remember Pelini complaining when he came here that Saban's defense was too hard for players to understand. He brought in soft zones and large cushions for WR's, Big 12 crap, until after he got torched a few games, the seniors went to Miles and told them that crap wouldn't work in SEC.

Our defense was not as dominating as it was under Saban and had more lapses. Pelini was decent but was he a dominating DC like Saban or Venebles? Nope.

um, it was 5 4th downs for the entire game, not just one drive.

and the defense gave up a whopping 3 scores the entire night

If you had watched the 2007 NC season, you would know. Opponents could score at any time on us. We could not stop Ole Miss who were on 3-21 roll in the SEC.

You are qualified to cheer like hell for LSU and are an expert on voicing your own emotional reaction to outcomes of games / seasons.

That is all. You are not qualified to evaluate coaches or players.

BTW, neither am I. But, I do not post idiotic “ hire this guy!” and “ this coach should not be hired” screeds.

The dudes that are qualified to make these choices will do so. I’ll cheer like hell for them to succeed. I’ll either be happy or not based upon what DOES happen. I do not delude myself into believing I know who it will be or if that person is right or wrong for the job.

And, I absolutely do not take a name I hear on internet / social media and assume that person is truly being hired and start getting worked up over the rumored hire.

In those days 3 scores was too many. Games used to be won 17-14 Georgia, Ole Miss 2003.

I don’t understand why we keep seeing Pelini threads.

Pelini said he is not a candidate for the LSU position.

So will I cheer Bo if he is on our sidelines, make no mistakes. But until he is, I would pray he isn't.

Pelini's three defenses were all top 3 in total defense. 2 were top 5 in scoring defense. If you don't like his attitude, then you have a leg to stand on. If you don't think he was/is a good DC then you should gtfo and go watch sportscenter or something.

Arkansas and Kentucky??

2017:
MSU - 37
Syracuse - 26
Troy - 24

2018:
A&M - 74

2019:
Vandy - 38
Ole Miss - 37

And Aranda is a damn fine coordinator

This is getting out of hand.

You know that pelini was here longer than 1 year right?

You do know that team was built around it’s front four and Dorsey and Charles Alexander were significantly banged up against McFadden Jones and hillis right?

I did watch it. In regulation we gave up 28 to Arkansas and 27 to Kentucky. Defense allowed 19.9 ppg, good for #17 in the country.

We don’t win the SEC championship game without Perrilloux. Flynn and the offense had become stagnant and our defense declined.

That game went to 3 OTs. We gave up 28 points in regulation. We gave up 74 to aTm in overtime last year, is Aranda’s legacy forever tainted?

Also went to 3 overtimes. Gave up 27 points in regulation.

2007 - LSU (1) at Kentucky (17)
41 rushes for 125 yards (3.0 average)
21 comp./38 att. (55.3%), 250 yards (6.6 ypa)
375 total yards

2019 - LSU (1) at Ole Miss (NR)
44 rushes for 402 yards (9.1 average)
15 comp./27 att. (55.6%), 212 yards (7.9 ypa)
614 total yards

Florida was ranked #9 in the AP when we played them. They only scored 24 points, and they happened to have a guy named Tim Tebow on their team who won the Heisman Trophy that year.

Bama was also a top 25 team, and they only had 254 yards of total offense in that game.
quote:

The 2019 team was Joe Burrow's team, but we had a fairly good defense too.

LSU scoring defense SEC ranking by year:
Pelini
2005 - #2
2006 - #1
2007 - #2

Aranda
2016 - #2
2017 - #4
2018 - #7
2019 - #8

I say this not to knock Aranda (I think he’s an excellent DC) but to point out the absurd revisionist history around Bo Pelini.

Holy shite. The irony of referencing 2007 Ole Miss after we gave up 600 yards to 2019 Ole Miss.

If that’s the case then surely we would have finished with a defense worse than 2nd in the conference / 5th in the nation right? Oh wait...
