2006 LSU @ Auburn: hardest hitting game ever?

I know this was brought up on the kicking puppies thread. I was in Jordan-Hare that afternoon. It sucked. I don’t think I’ve ever seen officials blow a game like that involving LSU, with the exception of aggy 7OT game.
With that said, this game is overlooked as one of the hardest hitting games I’ve seen. I’ve never seen teams have to fight so hard for a single yard. Even the lone TD came on a QB sneak at the goal line. There was rarely any open space to be had.

one of the hardest hitting i ever saw in person was LSU-Rice 1995.
I will let you guess who was delivering those hits.

That was a war that day. Loved LSU Auburn games back then. They always seemed to be low scoring and very hard hitting

I was at that game too, sitting in the Auburn student section with an LSU shirt on. This was the absolute worst game I've ever been to, for many reasons. I don't recommend sitting in the enemy student section with the wrong colors on. That being said, the missed PI call happened right in front of me. I was so happy when that flag came out because they mauled Doucet. Then shock and anger as the ref waived off the flag and the rest of the stadium erupted in cheers all around me. I was so frickin pissed.

I can think of many individual hits better than anything in that game but on the whole it’s up there, as were most LSU-Auburn games of that era

Hard to be much harder than 9-6 in 2011. But it’s up there.

I think that should go without saying

It was #3 vs #6. Sometimes you take what tickets you can get at a big time game like that. Was glad I got out of there without a black eye or needing bail money.
I def felt like ole boy flexin at the Florida game a few years ago.

Auburn got drilled at home the next week by Arkansas. Tuberville stated his Auburn team was so beat up from the week before against LSU, that they didn’t have much of a chance.

2004 @ Auburn was pretty hard-hitting as well.
I think it was 06 where I saw Hester hit a hole and get absolutely blasted backwards. Some "sincere contact" as Leslie would say.

It was a tough defensive game but I'll always believe that we got hosed in that one. That game may well have coast LSU the 2006 national title. If we win then we're the SEC West champs that year and we'd of played Florida in the SEC title game. That game would've been a toss up IMO. If we beat Florida then we beat Ohio St. for the NC. The 2006 LSU team may have been our best ever sans 2019.

I remember an old espn article talking about this and was one of the reasons they moved Lsu v AU up earlier in the season.

Particularly in light of the fact they made THE EXACT SAME CALL to waive off an LSU interception literally six (game) minutes earlier.

The 2006 game was on September 16. Hard to move up much more than week 2 or 3.
