It was a 2:30 game in Saban’s first year. We finally beat Bama at home for the first time since 1969. We recovered our own fumble in a punt return and refs gave the ball to bama. We had to show the refs the replay on the big screen to overturn it lol. We had the lead and fell behind. As it got dark in the second half, Robert Royal had a big game and Booty to Reed was on point all game. We won 30-28 even though we could never fully put a bad Bama team away.

my first game I remember as a child. I fell in love immediately seeing the eye of the tiger and green field. I remember this was the replay game. I was 10 and have been hooked ever since.

Got to storm the field in my first game.

But the weirdest was still to come. With just over 7 minutes left and LSU up 23-21 we saw the dawn of instant replay in the SEC. Davis muffed a punt, and despite Erin Damond clearly jumping on the ball in full view of the crowd and pulling it out of the massive scrum that ensued, the officials seemed to have no idea what just happened. As the referees huddled up to figure out what was going on, one was clearly signaling an Alabama recovery, but as all parties involved were pleading their cases, the head referee Steve Landis (who, coincidentally, is now a conference replay official) appeared to sneak a glance up at the score board video monitor, which was replaying the muff and recovery. LSU kept the ball, and went on to score the decisive touchdown. It's still one of the funniest things I've ever seen a referee do in a game, and the conference has since passed a rule on home scoreboard operators running "any replay that might embarrass the officials." Because yeah, it was all the scoreboard operator's fault.

Gumps claim the refs stole the game from them.

Yep, was a great game. Maybe in the minority but I don't mind the 2:30 kickoff. Many good CBS memories at the 2:30 slot.

The two guys who walked on the field and mooned the south end zone changed the momentum in that game. I remember in the post game Hanny or Rush or both had a tip jar up at Serrano’s to help fund their bail

Of course they do. Because they are blind.

Replay before replay. The refs tried to pull one out for the Tide. Not sure who worked the video screen back then , but they ran that recovery on a loop until they fixed the call. Not sure if the zebras would’ve made it out of the stadium unscathed have they not done so

Such a big game for us.

The game turned around with the two students running on the field and mooning the bama fans.

Also watching the KY Jelly drip down the goal post all game.

2000 was one of my favorite seasons despite that bad UAB loss.

Arkansas was also a bad loss. They would’ve gone to the cotton bowl with a win

There wasn’t even a scrum which made the possibility of giving Alabama the ball so egregious. The refs had huddled because they were trying to determine whether there was kick catch interference.

After they determined there was no penalty on Alabama, what a shock, they tried to give them the ball because after the contact on Davis no one had thought to check to see who recovered the ensuing loose ball.
