Q: Why doesn't LSU claim the 1908 Natty even though LSU is listed as co-champions with Penn on the NCAA official site?
A: The National Championship Foundation retroactively named the 10–0 1908 LSU Tigers football team co-national champions, and the NCAA officially recognizes this. However, Louisiana State University chooses not to claim it because the title was not awarded contemporaneously, and the undefeated season was overshadowed by regional accusations of professionalism and player compensation that required a formal investigation.
Irony at its best.
Claim the title!

It didn't go over my head, it's just stupid. I know why they could but I don't see why you think they should. What possible benefits do you think the program or university would obtain that would outweigh the negative reaction in the media and on social media. It's a dumb idea to me but if you have different reasoning, I'm curious what it is.

You can kick an old woman down a flight of stairs, that doesn't make it a good idea. I am not quesitoning the ability, I am questioning the desire and reasoning. Hence the "why" and not "how".

Because LSU is considered the national champion of that year. Is that hard to understand?
The only other team with a claim is Penn, and btw they were also awarded the national championship after the fact because there was no system in place at the time. Comparison:
Records: LSU 10-0, Penn 11-0-1
Shutouts: LSU 7, Penn 7
Outscored opponents by margin of: LSU 442-11 (!), Penn 215-28
Avg margin of victory: LSU 43.1, Penn 15.6
Hang the banner already.

Only for hanging the banner; they were the co-champions under the SEC rules at the time. The SEC only applied the tiebreaker rule to who played in the Championship game, not who were division champions, so tied teams were considered co-champions.

Believe it or not, those men took pride in playing football for LSU even more than 90% of the players nowadays do.
Why should their legacy not be honored the same way as the other championship teams who are recognized by the governing body of the sport?
I don’t think it’s an intentional slight, but the program is doing them a disservice being that they are the first national championship team for a program that would go on to become a major power in the sport.

You do realize being recognized by the NCAA as the National Champion whether retoractively or not is still considered a valid National Championship and not a "mythical" one....I'm not saying we should or shouldn't but your logic is very flawed in thinking we shouldn't.
