Daniels had 201 yards before the half ended on a injured foot. Lsu RBs had 16 carries all game. He was limping and got zero help from run game, fluke turnovers, and blocked FG TD. But you blame Daniels for the entire team problem?

Idk about that. I think the fanbase has a lot of love for JD but also knows he needs to let it go a little more this year. But the talk seems pretty optimistic.
If anything, I feel like it’s the rest of the country that keeps saying things like they don’t understand how Daniels is considered the best qb in the SEC and that he’s overrated.

Daniels beat Alabama and Saban despite not having the talent that Jefferson and Lee both had. Daniels scares defenses, Lee and Jefferson didn’t scare anyone.

He’s an elite athlete.
Am I ready to say he’s leading the heisman race? Nope. But he has all the tools to do that. Just depends on which JD5 we get this year. He needs an entire season of decent stats and not have any Auburn, Arky, type performances

I think JD is capable of being a Heisman QB this year and I think he developed well over last season to help us win games despite his injury.
But I can’t pretend that he didn’t have some deficiencies that I hope are resolved this year. Specifically, he needs to see the field and open receivers better. There were plenty of times last year that he tucked and ran when there was an open receiver. That’s not hating on him, that’s just something that’s needed from him as a leader of this team and a Heisman QB.

If he gets his passing game consistently dialed in, he could be downright scary. Like, I’m not even sure who to compare him to scary.

Jayden will have to improve as a playmaker distributing the ball to reach the next level.
His hesitancy is the only thing keeping him from elite status. Elite QBs make others around him successful.

It sure seems like it.
I think some distinction needs to be made between him being a Heisman “candidate” vs. a Heisman finalist or winner. He is unequivocally a Heisman candidate right now, and will continue to be in that mix for at least the first few games unless he plays really poorly.
That doesn’t mean he will wind up in New York at the end of the season. Statistically, the odds are pretty stacked against him. That’s not a knock on Daniels, it’s just reality when it comes to preseason Heisman hopefuls.
But he doesn’t need to go to NY to justify his preseason Heisman candidacy, to be on the list of great LSU quarterbacks, or for this team to have a ton of success. If he even proves he’s a top 10 QB nationally, he will have proven a lot of folks (on tRant) wrong.
Personally, I think all he really has to do in order to get there is be a little more decisive getting the ball out. If he can do that, I think he’ll have a ton of success. Despite the Arkansas and A&M games, we saw Daniels improve a lot in this regard (IMO) starting with the Tennessee game last year and continuing through the end of the season. I don’t see why he wouldn’t continue to improve going into year 2 of the same offensive scheme.
