Eli Ricks, Alabama CB
It’s been a weird year for Ricks. Yes, he most recently had his best game of the year by a country mile. PFF had him for 1 catch allowed on 10 targets, and he forced 5 incompletions. He played 90 (!) snaps and looked every bit like the guy who was a revelation as a true freshman at LSU in 2020. But up until that game, it’s been anything but a smooth ride at Alabama. Nick Saban was vocal in the offseason about Ricks still learning how things were done at Alabama, which was ignored by those who selected Ricks as a preseason first-team All-SEC selection.

quote:

Kayshon Boutte, LSU WR
Am I encouraged by the fact that Boutte’s past 2 weeks were a 100-yard showing against Florida and a team-high 7-target game against Ole Miss? Absolutely. This offense absolutely looks like it turned the corner. But if you told LSU fans before the year that the preseason All-American would go into November with just 288 receiving yards and 1 touchdown, they would’ve been devastated. Or rather, they would’ve thought he was either in Brian Kelly’s doghouse or that he re-injured his ankle.

quote:

Jack Bech, LSU WR
We knew coming into the season that LSU had depth at receiver and with a new offense, there was concern about whether that would be maximized. In 2021, Bech had 489 receiving yards, which was second among SEC true freshmen behind only Brock Bowers. Even with the aforementioned Boutte set to return after the season-ending ankle injury, there was hope that Bech could take that Year 2 jump and become a reliable target for Daniels. So far, that hasn’t happened. Bech has just 10 catches for 81 yards and 1 touchdown. He appears to be out of LSU’s offensive plans having only played 20 snaps once, which was in Week 4 when Boutte was out after the birth of his child.

quote:

Arik Gilbert, Georgia TE
I’ll say this. It brought a smile to my face to see Gilbert celebrated by his teammates after he got into the end zone late against Vandy for his first touchdown in 2 years.

TJ Finley was honorable mention

Jack Bech, LSU WR

The most protected player on the rant.

He's been awful this season. That said, he's been hurt at times but man, he fell off hard.

All will be forgiven if he scores the game winning TD against the gump fricks tho

Disappointing and overrated are 2 different things. They are all very talented and showed that they can compete and shine against the best. So let's not look at this as if they are saying they're overrated.

They've all faced situations this year and had to overcome CEO's mishandling the team the last couple of years.

Not sure if there’s ever been a player more coveted that wasn’t a back up qb.

Not sure what your point is from this post. LSU is rolling along, as BK gets comfortable- all is good in tiger country so just be thankful

Wasn't it the rant's last great white hope that dropped the game winning catch against the gumps

Ricks played extremely well his first year. Bech played extremely well his first year. Arik played extremely well his first year (set the SEC true Fr record for TDS at TE) Boutte played extremely well his first year.

College athletes have ups and downs. All of these kids went through coaching changes , some multiple. Some had injuries. Talent wise , none were a miss. In fact , all were spot on or better in their true first year stats. They may not have handled adversity well , but stars and evals DO NOT consider that when giving a rating.

I know he is listed as a receiver but if I remember right most of those yards were when he was playing as a TE. Now Mason Taylor is playing the role that Bech was playing. I don’t know if it his back that is causing his lack of production but I was so impressed when he came to LSU because he bleeds purple and gold and after a game you knew he gave 100%

It’s all part of a BK head fake. Bech roars against Bama.
