So we hired another 50+ coach that's never won anything and expected a different result?

I personally think Lane will turn it around, but it is kind of silly to fire a 50+ year old coach that never won anything of note and hire another 50+ year old coach that hasn't won anything and expect different results.

Maybe "he just needs better players" isn't the right way to think about this, and there's underlying flaws that led to them not winning anything at their previous schools.

Acting like Kiffin and Kelly are the same age is strange

I'm fine. But it does bring up a very valid question about how many times we'll go to the well with this exact archetype of a coach.

I mean Kiffin's 51 years old. Acting like he's some young up-and-coming coach is ridiculous.

Kiffin and Kelly are not the same archetype brother.

Kelly was looking for a retirement gig.
Kiffin was looking for somewhere that had the resources and talent to fulfill his career vision.

If you are going to hire someone "that's never won anything" probably be safer with someone with more experience and a overall winning record that spans more than 5 or 6 years. Hiring someone who has "won something" is no guarantee either. aTm paid a lot for Jimbo to do nothing there. Jury is still out on Belichick over there in NC. Most people who have "won something" are pretty content at their current job and that "having won something" job security that comes with it.

Was the same stuff not said about Kelly? He didn't get the players/resources he needed at Notre Dame?

So, who would you have hired instead?

I mean this is your schtick and you’ve been waiting for this moment.

That being said Kiffin got out coached bad tonight. No overreactions from me on the bigger picture but would be dumb to not feel slightly concerned moving forward.
