re: Ole Miss should be grateful

How many wins do you think Kiffin would have had here without the pretty massive NIL resources he had at his disposal?

He went 10-2 in 2021 before NIL had taken off.

ETA… Ole Miss was 3-9 in 2019 before Lane got there. I’d say turning it around in 2 years to win 10 regular season games without NIL is pretty good.

When did you know it was over, honestly?

If you really think Pete Golding is that important of a coach, I feel bad for you.

I think if OM is hard arse and tells him, either sign this contract or you can’t coach in the playoffs

This already happened last week.

I’d rather take Eric Morris and keep Baker.

I wouldn’t mind that at all.

Umm aTm seems do be doing ok with the coach that is currently paid the least in the SEC!

Yes, it has worked out for A&M this year. Elko is making $7 million this year right behind Billy Napier at $7.47 million and just ahead of Sam Pittman at $6.82 and Hugh Freeze at $6.74.

The bottom 2 salaries in the SEC are Lebby at Miss State ($4.35 million) and Clark Lea at Vandy ($3.71 million).

Elko will be making $11 million next year making him the 2nd highest paid SEC coach until Lane gets his new contract.

At $7 million per year, LSU’s coach would be the 3rd lowest paid SEC coach next year. Not really what I’m hoping for but I guess if you can get the best coach available at that price then good.

My point is I only care about getting the best coach. That should be what’s most important.

So you want LSU to have one of the lowest paid head coaches in the SEC?

I’m more concerned about having the best head coach than what some rich donors agree to pay the head coach.

I’m not mad at him for leaving, it’s a business. The frustrating part is the season we are (were) having and the ramifications. We can say what we want about him leaving in a playoff run but I think we all know we aren’t winning a Natty so I’m sure that plays a factor. I think most just wish he would leave and we can move on and try to win a CFP game

I definitely understand this.

This is an excellent analogy.

If you want 10 win seasons with frustrating losses to bad teams along the way and a finish or 14th why did we fire Kelly?

BK never won 10 regular season games at LSU, always needed the bowl game for that 10th win.

Lane has won 10 regular season games 3 times in the last 5 years at Ole Miss with far less talent.

Serious question. Does Ole Miss truly believe they are a better job than Auburn? Has Lane's success diluted them that much?

From everything I read from their fans the last two days… yes. They think they are better than Auburn and equal to LSU and Florida.

re: Why would Kiffin stay?

LSU has the 6th highest team talent composite this season according to 247. Ole Miss is 21st. Last year Ole Miss was 20th and LSU was 8th

LSU has way more talent. The difference is the coaching of the talent.
Over the last 10 seasons, 6 coaches have won national championships. 3 of those are in your list (Dabo, Smart & Day).

Over the last 15 seasons, 9 coaches have won national championships. 4 of those are your list.

That’s pretty good representation by first time head coaches in winning recent national championships.

They bought one of the most talented teams in CFB last year and lost 3 games, 1 of those to a very talent-depleted LSU defense.

Their team talent ranking was 20th in the country last year, just below Missouri and just above South Carolina. That’s the highest team talent ranking Lane has had at Ole Miss.

They had the #1 portal class last year but that still only raised their overall team talent ranking to 20th.

For comparison, LSU’s team talent ranking last year was 8th and is 6th this year.

he said Kelly wasn't geting fired until after 2026 season at the earliest

And I believe he said this on his post game show right after the Texas A&M game. Said there was 0% chance BK would be fired. BK was fired less than 24 hours later.

Guess I missed where you mentioned the $15 million buyout previously in this thread.

So, you think LSU will commit to spending close to $30 million (buyout plus salary) on Cignetti in the first year?
Cignetti has a $15 million buyout that he owes Indiana if he leaves to coach at another school. I don’t think LSU is going to pay that buyout on top of an over $11 million per year salary.
I would love Dan Lanning too but I’m not sure he’s attainable. Would take a whole lot to make him leave Oregon.
