Honest discussion about Baker and his defensive playcalling

You can say he didn’t have the personnel last year or the year before to stop mobile QBs, but that is not the case this season.
He has been atrocious against mobile QBs for the last three seasons and tonight showed he still cannot adjust. Even when he found something that worked in the 3rd quarter, he decided it made sense to stop the pressure in the 4th, which allowed them to score their TD and win the game.
Sure, the offense didn’t do well, but the defense was awful from the 2nd drive on.
In the end, Baker will never be a championship level DC. He’s overpaid and clearly has not learned.
The defense has plenty of talent, and looked to be confused for the bulk of the game.

Baker isn’t bad but doesn’t deserve top tier dc money. He’s a top 1/3 or so dc.

Just maybe their QB was/is pretty dang good. Some of yall are just ignorant about football. If our QB could throw the ball accurately to wide open players we win this game.

Would have been much more accepting of the L had we gone down in flames being aggressive and trying to get after Chambliss. The type of D he calls is just excruciating to watch.

The end of the half was bad.
Hold them to a FG and it's 27-24 at the end of the game when we are going into win or tie.
The last RZ play call sucked when we kicked the FG to tie it up at 24.

No one is saying Chambliss sucks, but anyone with a brain could see what Baker’s decisions were going to result in for both the first half and 4th quarter.

That’s the point. He played a defense for a mobile QB that can’t throw, aka Leavitt.
You simply just gave Chambliss a fee pass to take his time and go wherever he wanted.

Did you even watch? We sent pressure and played man on the last TD play. What happened? That play is why most defenses play zone vs a QB like Chambliss. There isn’t a LB on earth who can run with him and Spears was out early in the game. There’s no legit spy, so every play in man is a potential house call if you don’t get home or unless he misreads it. He didn’t misread much tonight.
Does the team get flat-footed and too passive in zone? Yes. They did tonight at least. But they have to improve because it’s necessary when you play a QB that fast outside.
We will play a lot of drop 7 and mush rush next week too for the same reasons. But Reed isn’t as accurate as Chambliss and he’s also missing 2 of his best WRs.

Holy shite the melt about Baker is insane. Trinidad had a total of 2 yards rushing. He did a good job extending plays but guess what, that’s why he is probably going to win the heisman. Every defense in the country is going to struggle with him extending plays this year. We just got beat by a really good QB, no reason to act like the defense sucks now.

Marcel will cook us. I just hope the Tigers play well enough offensively to keep the ball most of the game and match scores with the Aggies. I don't want them taking over our stadium again.
