Hooray for Zach!
I don't think LSU's QB of the future is on campus yet (unless Garrett is awfully good), so maybe Zach can help us back to the top!

Did you go to the spring game? Yeah, Garrett is that good. A big, smart kid with a rifle arm and can actually avoid a rush. He needs to play some next year for sure. I do, however, totally understand the redshirt this year.

So my wife (who works for the McKinney ISD) emails me today to tell me she just heard that McKinney High has a QB named Zach Lee that committed to LSU, had I heard of him.
Well I hadn’t but I headed over here to look and sure enough I find this (and several other threads). Looks like I will have to check out the remaining McKinney High games.
The last time I went to see an LSU QB recruit play high school was a kid named Matt Flynn out of Tyler Lee… He turned out OK.
BTW, dano7051. My wife is a Red Raider so around here we root for the Tigers, Texas Tech and whoever is playing Texas.
Best of luck to Zach whatever he chooses.

Dano I guess you just don't think as highly of him as some of us do.
It is really nice to hear from someone as close to him on this website. Looking forward to seeing him light it up in a few years on the football field and also on the baseball field. Kid could be loaded down with rings by the time he leaves LSU.

I had never really put much thought into this commit only because it seemed to be that he was going to the draft
good to hear we have a solid shot at him coming to LSU

Oh I have no doubts about him coming here, my doubts were how long does he stay?

Zach Lee has been pegged to go in the top 2 rounds in a few mock drafts I've seen so far. The kid is just that good on the diamond, however with his football commitment there's always that IF factor. I wouldn't be calling him a 90% lean to come to LSU just yet...

If he ends up coming to LSU, he and Chris Garrett are going to be in one heck of a battle for QB several years from now. Hard to say which one is better because we haven't seen much from either of them, but they both look legit. We are in a good situation at QB in the future I think.

I've seen Lee play and you can read the initial post for my evaluation. BTW, it is also my brother's evaluation who has seen a lot more Texas HS games than I have seen so he can judge him against hundreds of HS players and dozens of QBs he has seen over the years.

I've posited my nightmare scenario (for LSU football -- not for baseball) before, but this seems like a good place to do it again.
When Lee comes to campus, it is likely that he will redshirt in football, and it is very unlikely that he will redshirt in baseball -- he's too good not to pitch for PM as a true freshman.
Lee is already predicted to be a high draft pick for MLB. If he progresses and turns into a truly dominant pitcher, his stock could rise and he could be a top ten draft pick.
Though baseball players often go pro after their junior years because they have the leverage to return for a senior seasaon, Lee has the leverage of the NFL, so he stays for his senior season in baseball (which is now his redshirt junior season in football).
Let us also assume that Chris Garrett becomes a great QB for LSU and Lee sits behind him as his backup through that time. After Garrett graduates, Lee wins the starting job in spring practice. At the same time, he completes an incredible senior season as a pitcher, leading LSU to another national title at the CWS with a dominating performance.
Lee then becomes one of the top 5 picks in the MLB draft. Fall camp starts in football, and Lee (our starting QB) has to decide whether to take $8 million guaranteed to play MLB, or to basically give it up and quit baseball to play QB for the Tigers. The Tiger faithful sit on pins and needles and wait for him to make his decision ...

sounds very similar to what Les had to deal with at Oklahoma State with Matt Holiday and Josh Fields
If he never gets to campus, he's Holliday, if he comes and leaves early for baseball, he's Fields.

I have been telling people, he is the real deal, as ny brother lives in TX. I know he will be a good QB, but I would love to see him on the mound for the Tigahs.
Thank you for your post.

He's a better baseball prospect right now, but still a very very solid QB pickup.

Seriously, though, I do expect Lee to redshirt in football but not in baseball, setting up the potential for my scenario. If he doesn't redshirt in one sport but not the other, then there's no problem -- he can play each sport for four years, be drafted by both sports, and then decide which offer to take.

Yes, but he will be on a football scholarship, and thus he will most likely have to leave the baseball team in mid-season (a la Chad Jones) and participate in spring practice.
I suspect he will devolop quicker as a QB than as a pitcher as a result.

I don't know but I would think he would miss some football in the spring because of baseball thereby putting his football development at LSU a bit further behind.
Isn't CJ on a football scholarship, didn't he miss some spring football because of it? Just asking.
