If you star gaze then maybe so
They also have the best recruiting ranking averages over the last 3 years
That isn't a coincidence....

I thought O would be able to pull in 5 star studs all day. Isn't that his best attribute? If he can't do that or beat Bama we might as well have Les.

I love the ranter response to stars don’t matter but they’re also the first ones to go ape shite when land a big time commit.
Stars do matter, you can talk yourselves into them being overrated but you’re wrong. Could this class just be loaded with underrated guys other schools and the services miselvautaed ? Perhaps but the numbers don’t really favor that.

Stars matter... agreed. Not that there aren't mistakes or overlooked players.
One thing to consider with the ranking this year is that we are likely to pull in a couple of JR college kids that aren't going to help with the ranking. This would be done to fill spots we need that we have missed in 2014 and 2015s stellar classes.

As it sits now, we're looking like being right around that average. Yes, I want more than the average. But to talk about not having any in Oct or Nov (or May) is just disingenuous.
Now, the conversation of 4* and 3* is a different story.
But 5*'s, we could very easily end up with 2 of them (average), with some luck and lots of hustle 3 or 4 (better than average).

No not at all, this class will be a solid one that will build the foundation for the future success that is on its way.

Looks like they've done okay missing the top ten now and then
Clemson recruiting rank

2016 6th
2017 22nd

it will be, however, i'll take three 4* DTs every damn time. still probably getting joiner, surtain and marshall. might still be a top 15 class.

Love how people always point to the one exception to the rule. Yeah you show the rankings for clemson but you fail to mention a 5 star all world QB, d. watson, put that team on his back most of the time he was there. So yeah let LSU get a 5 star stud at QB then id be happy to settle for the 15th ranked class for a few years. Now put an average QB with that class and see how they do against top 5 ranked teams.
We may finish in the top 15 or close to top 10 but O better start building these O and d lines or it wont matter how many great db's and WR's we have. So far this years class is avg at best.

On the d-line it seems like we already have a few solid ones in this class to go along with returning players and the ones who were ineligible this year. Probably need a couple of transfers for depth, but otherwise ok.

I used his rivals.com 5 rating. My point being he was better than anything LSU has had in a long long time at QB.

Since we're talking if Deshaun Watson was a 4 or 5 star, 247 didn't have any 5 star dual threat QB's that year. Watson was #2 ranked. #1 was Jerrod Heard and the one and only Brandon Harris was #3.

No. Not even close.

The class isn’t complete but they need some dudes on the LOS to really fill out this class. I think Hines and Rosenthal switch to OL and that they’ll at Traore so they should be good there.
They direly need some DL. Getting Michael Thompson would be huge but Dominic Livingston is good as well. Flipping Bobby Brown from A&M would be sweet.

I have a slightly different perspective. This teams problems primarily stem from one position (QB), and our success with that position will determine if this class is a success. We need to establish a steady flow of prospects so that we always have a solid QB waiting in the wings. We regularly get quality players at every other position. So, if we follow Brennan and Narcisse with James Foster and/or Gerry Bohanon, then this class is awesome. Screw the rankings. I want quarterbacks on tap.

Considering this was supposed to be O's strength it's extremely concerning.
Doesnt seem like he has many good recruiters on staff other that raymond either.
Oh, please, you are going off the list of current commits. Sometimes great classes are built all year long (like last year for LSU) sometimes they are built late in the year. We started out fast, filled our immediate needs, and are now focused on chiefly outstanding prospects, most of whom will out rate/out rank our present highest ranked/rated committed prospects.
We wont get them all, but you never do, no one ever does, but we will get a lot of the top recruits. The ones we have now suit our needs, so everyone else is gravy - creme de la creme, best of the best.
T-Rob helped bring in a fantastic class at USC last year, mostly seemingly out of nowhere at the end of the 2017 cycle - he could be taking a similar approach now at LSU.
Here is 1 very possible finish (delete who you think unlikely, its still great):
***
What about this class of 30 with 2 QBs, Justin Rogers and Gerry Bohanon, that cuts already: Griffin, Moore, Washington ? Who would you cut here, if any, to get down to 27 ?
The 15 adds:
Patrick Surtain Jr. CB (6-2 / 181)0.9988 (+29.88)
Terrace Marshall WR (6-2.5 / 192)0.9947 (+29.29)
Anthony Cook CB (6-0 / 168)0.9924 (+28.53)
Justin Rogers DUAL (6-4 / 210)0.9824 (+26.72)
Kelvin Joseph CB (6-1.5 / 191)0.9730 (+24.73)
Kamryn Babb WR (6-1 / 189)0.9685 (+23.01)
Michael Thompson DT (6-3.5 / 291)0.9670 (+21.38)
Justin Watkins WR (5-11 / 172)0.9619 (+19.36)
Dylan Wonnum OT (6-5 / 279)0.9556 (+17.22)
Harold Joiner RB (6-3 / 218)0.9353 (+14.27)
Merlin Robertson OLB (6-3 / 241)0.9294 (+12.38)
Gerry Bohanon DUAL (6-3 / 218)0.9114 (+7.45)
Badara Traore OT (6-8 / 315)0.9041 (+5.09)
Glenn Beal TE (6-5 / 250)0.8842 (+1.98)
Michael Williams ATH (6-1 / 230)0.8516 (+0.12)
The full class of 30 scores 302.55 - top 3 last year.

Pretty much dead on right here.
(Still gotta get those other guys, but this is key, critical.)
